You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.
Lots of analysis about threat of the Greens usurping Labour on the left. Reform usurping the Tories on the right. But none about how Binface has completely usurped the Monster Raging Looney Party for the joke vote. Another party that just couldn’t adapt to the attention economy
Love this puts Count Binface 2nd from top and Farage about halfway down.
“BINFACE, Count” 🤣🤣🤣

Eventually I am going to post triumphant pictures of Yuzi and I's wedding, but meanwhile I think we look cute in this. A bbq where my family and her family hung out together, and my dad had hung up flags for all the countries represented there which I thought was nice.
If you want a big spectacular book-adaptation American movie about a reluctant clever hero on an impossible journey through weird places (which I do), Project Hail Mary is great.
The U.S. State department has taken "full responsibility" for presenting a map of Africa at a global AIDS conference that mislabeled every single country it highlighted. Every single one. The map had a watermark indicating it was made using AI from OpenAI.
My last post was about using AI to generate Kubernetes configuration. Someone suggested that validating the configuration helps by providing guardrails for the agent. I integrated several Kubernetes validation / policy tools to test the approach. medium.com/@bgrant0607/...
Validating, scoring, and gating Kubernetes configuration after every change
Validating triggers provide the kind of guardrails that AI agents need in order to verify their work and guide their act-and-fix loops.

I wrote about the Nolan Odyssey for the LRB. I'll summarize some of my main points below, in case you don't feel like reading all that. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

As they say at the awards shows, I was humbled to learn that Christopher Nolan has read at least the first line of my...

watched the odyssey last night. film ruined by everyone speaking english instead of ancient greek.
This is the face of a woman who does not want to hear one more word about The Stone Roses.
In Elon's version, the Odyssey is about Silicon Valley We start with the sacking of Washington DC A trojan horse is used Will the techbros get home before their 10y vesting cliff expires? They anger the market and roam from VC to VC Ketamine dreams "It was the kids we had along the way"
There is a lot to say about the Nolan Odyssey movie. But one point that I think has not been emphasized enough is: this is a film about living in LA, as Nolan, my erstwhile British compatriot and age mate, has done for years. I gather it’s a strange place.
Absolutely fascinating article about London's history and Smithfield market. Well worth your time.
www.thelondonjournal.org/blog.html#Ha... A new piece up on the @thelondonjournal.bsky.social blog including some unpublished bits from my PhD; a few of my photos; and some reflections on Smithfield's long life/slow death prompted by Justinien Tribillon's @vittles.bsky.social article about Rungis
Last night, Russia attacked a European capital with over 40 ballistic missiles. That leads nowhere in European news headlines this morning. Russian terror, murder and destruction are simply taken in stride as a normal story.
Josh Kerr smashes the mile WR by half a second. Only the 2nd Brit to hold an outdoor WR (Jonathan Edwards triple jump the other one).
DM: ‘You come to large wooden door.’ Cat: ‘I knock at the door.’ DM: ‘An orc opens it and asks you to come in.’ Cat: ‘I do nothing.’ DM ‘He asks you to come inside again.’ Cat: ‘I do nothing.’ DM: ‘Eventually the orc tires and closes the door.’ Cat: ‘I knock at the door.’

The rise of batteries: California hit 33% of peak load within 22 quarters of batteries passing 1%. Australia 23% in 17, Texas 17% in 16. Great Britain took 28 quarters to reach 17%. Once the curve bends, deployment compounds. More in my next Substack - sign up here: janrosenow.substack.com
Another historical inaccuracy from Nolan—IMAX had not yet been invented in the Mycenaean period, so this is not the aspect ratio that people saw in! Smh
I've just seen about 40 kids sneak into watch 'The Odyssey' without paying by hiding in a giant wooden coat.
