"Don't give up. I mustn't give up." Conviction is echoed on the pristine glass of the antique mirror you clutch in your sweaty hand. The key. Your hope of lifting this curse. "I won't give up." You descend the stairwell, deeper into the crypt. #HorrorWritersChat
Good afternoon, #HorrorWritersChat! It is wonderfully cool today, and a storm is raging outside! A perfect weather for tonight. I am EXTREMELY excited for tonight's topic, as it is one of my favourite choices. When a promise is false. When hope is but an illusion. Tonight, the horror of LIES.
I'd love it if you'd give my weird suburban horror tales a try. Two of the individual stories from Stories from Shadow Hill are now widely available as mini-audio books, too! "Beware Cheap Houses" and "Lawn Wars" both narrated by @charlottechiewvo.bsky.social dangerouswhenbored.com/series/shado...

Oh, someone from the longago times, the paperback world. I read The Other by Thomas Tryon as a child, #evilTwin trope at its finest. Probably why I still write about twins to this day. #horrorwriterschat
A revival is due. It’s time for them to receive their flowers 🖤💐 Q4: #HorrorWritersChat - Shine a light on an underrated horror creator from 1900-1999 (20th century) Who are they? What do you love about their work? --- Outro in 10 mins.
I recently read Monster, She Wrote and my TBR trebled from that alone. I already knew Elizabeth Gaskell for her social novel North and South, but now I'm a fan of her horror, too! #HorrorWritersChat

Ray. Mutherflippin. Bradbury. His small town simplicity and creative, exquisite use of quotidian language speaks to me deeply, and I think we could mesh his small town sensibilities with my gold rush hometown ones for a fascinating play on rural communities facing horrors among the rolling hills.
Collaborations with those who have gone before. Q3: #HorrorWritersChat - Which dead horror creator would you want to collab with? Why? What would you create together?
100% Poe. He was my main inspiration for starting to write horror. Before that, I was all-fantasy all the time, but Poe’s stories awoke my dark side. 😂 I also think our shared propensity for romantic longing would allow us to mesh well. #HorrorWritersChat
Collaborations with those who have gone before. Q3: #HorrorWritersChat - Which dead horror creator would you want to collab with? Why? What would you create together?
#HorrorWritersChat I want to get together with Bram Stoker & reinstate his original ending to Dracula: the one where a volcano erupts & buries Dracula and his castle beneath lava. Was Dracula the original loadbearing boss? Maybe.

Ohhh if I could work with Shirley Jackson it would be a DREAM. The focus on mental health, unmet needs, and women in liminal spaces would be fantastic to explore with her. And her language! :swoon: I'd want to write a haunted hamlet story with her. #HorrorWritersChat

#HorrorWritersChat I’m James Ryan, horror generalist, and one favorite is Richard Matheson’s I AM LEGEND.

First week back for a while. Hi! I’m Clover, and I write experimental psychological horror. I love Night of the Living Dead. It’s refreshing to see a zombie movie made before all of the tired tropes. #HorrorWritersChat

#horrorwriterschat I’m Tamara, I write dark shortform fiction (horror or horror adjacent) A favorite resurrection story would have to be PET SEMATARY… and the cautionary tale it delivers. Much of what I love about horror is this lens on “be careful what you wish for”

Howdy #HorrorWritersChat I'm Scribbler Johnny and I write humorous and satirical horror. A favorite in the resurrection theme is Versus. People get resurrected to fight the same battle so many times nobody remembers what they're fighting FOR.

Hi #HorrorWritersChat I'm Samantha, purveyor of short horror. I'm a big fan of resurrection horror starting as far back as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. A more recent favorite was Stephen King's Pet Sematary (book and both films).

Hallo! It's been a minute since I've been able to dive into the #HorrorWritersChat, albeit a bit late... My name is Justine, I write weird shit, and... Q1: "Hodge" by Elinor Mordaunt (c.1921). Strange, sad, Frankenstein-esque tale of unearthing an early human from the tide pools. Poor Hodge.

Alice and Andy from Little White Flowers predate the first draft of that story by about two years. I used to have a core set of characters that I would just move from story to story. It took a while, but I finally found the story that worked for them! #HorrorWritersChat
Kill your darlings...so you can necromance them back to life! 🖤 Q2: #HorrorWritersChat - What unpublished plots or characters have you “resurrected” to use in a new story? Why did you bring them back?
