Any of us who have ever had to shout "connect me with a human, damnit," into our phones with clenched fists know the answer this question, hands down.

Robert Brockway: I hope to kick half as well when I’m a senior citizen with Nazi shrapnel in one hip. A wish I actually might get by the way things are going.
I've got a whole novel about an exploitative matriarchal theocracy.
Hi! I'm Tiernan, I write horror/fantasy/cross genre stuff and this week I had a short story published AND I annoyed my cat! #SFFChat
#SFFChat Intro: Introduce yourself & share something that happened to you or that you did this week (it can be boring if you like!)
#sffchat I'm a physical/body focused writer. I don't think you can write well without the physical, and how it connects with the emotional and spiritual. Depending on the work the physical is minimised or maximised, but always in service of what I'm trying to say.
#SFFChat Q1: How are bodies treated/thought about in your world(s)? And/or is there anything unusual about bodies in your world? For instance, are bodies considered lesser in a comparison between body/mind (or spirit)? Is the mind considered part of the body? Maybe there are ideal body types, etc
PINK PLASTIC, my strange and nasty little story, is out at @typebarmagazine.bsky.social. Give it a read, why not. www.typebarmagazine.com/pink-plastic/

Hi, I'm Sam, I'm a critic and write recommendation posts, and my favorite piece of horror media with plants, poisons, forests, or eco-horror is still "Carnivorine," though Moonflow and The Writhing Verdant End have grown on me.
Howdy, #HorrorWritersChat ! The leaves whisper secrets at the edge of a forest that melts into a garden. Its quiet murmurs guide you. You take a step. Q1 - Introduce yourself, the horror you write, and... share your favorite piece of horror media with plants, poisons, forest, or eco-horror.
I have made a decision about The Crow Dynasty. Whisper and Ukyo are canonically trans. It's not so big a deal to them, being natural shapeshifters, but I need more trans women represented in my ouvre!
Your breath stalls, replaced by drinking in the bright sunlight above. Your body stills, the flowers shivering as you integrate with their bed. The next person to come along hopefully will not touch. Thank you for sticking with me as your guest host, #HorrorWritersChat ! Comment promos below!
I admire quite a few of them. I kind of love how Mother Nature makes the dangerous ones so beautiful. There's probably a warning in there for us. Today, I'll pick poinsettias. (Ask tomorrow, and I'll have a different favorite). They look hungry to me. #HorrorWritersChat
The sun feels warmer, your skin buzzing with new life. Do you have a favorite poisonous plant, #HorrorWritersChat ? Why? What draws you to it?
#horrorwriterschat The blooms are pale, almost invisible. I blink hard and they disappear. I blink again and this time when the flowers return they are blood red and sun bright. My ribs crack & I let out a weak and desiccated scream. Now I'm moving deeper into the woods, but not under my own power.
The strange compulsion to reach out and touch one of the plants overtakes you. As your fingers touch the petals, they tingle. You freeze, watching tendrils reach out cautiously from the plant. "The roots dig deeper into my veins, foxgloves sprouting from my skin." Finish it. #HorrorWritersChat
You know, I've never given this much thought. I'll go with nightshade because it's in the same family as potatoes, and who doesn't love potatoes? #HorrorWritersChat

#HorrorWritersChat my personal favorite plant is probably foxgloves via aesthetic. I also find it morbidly fascinating that people used to shake the pollen into their tea knowing that it was poisonous.

I don't have a favorite poisonous plant, but I am fond of carnivorous plants. I mean, they're just so cool! They move and ensnare prey and digest it like we digest potato chips! That's just wild to me. #HorrorWritersChat

Fat Monster is about sentient fungus, does that count as a plant? I know fungus is kinda liminal... #horrorwriterschat
The garden is bright and vibrant with a wash of flowers. Oleander. Monkshood. Hydrangea and Mountain Laurel bushes. Small placquards stand beside each one. You realize as you read them, they're symptoms. QUESTION 2 - Have you ever written anything centering plants or poisons? #HorrorWritersChat
I clench my teeth so I don't scream. If I show any weakness the Court will tear me to pieces. The flowers continue to spread through me, twisting my visage until I'm the beautiful Queen I was born to be. #HorrorWritersChat except oops now it's fantasy 🧚

#HorrorWritersChat Q3 "The roots dig deeper into my veins, foxgloves sprouting from my skin." I embrace it, relaxing into the plants as they take me. I see the horror on my colleagues’ faces, but I’m unworried. I’m free. They may choose to fight the escaped plant experiments, but I prefer to live.

When I need a poison I'll often lean towards monkshood. Partly because it does nasty things to you, partly because I write about monks a lot, and partly because of the Cadfael book that features it prominently. #HorrorWritersChat

The roots dig deeper into my veins, foxgloves sprouting from my skin My legs untwine, separating into thin green strands which fall into a tangled heap My body extends, a twisted beanstalk reaching towards the sky My eyes unfurl, sightless petals It's time to bloom #HorrorWritersChat

#HorrorWritersChat I do not, though admittedly I don't really know any. I'm losing steam so my answers are getting less thrilling 😆
