This. Accessibility in terms of being able to get access to games in the first place isn’t evenly distributed. I had same experience as a kid. Second hand games, second or third hand consoles. That is all going away and it’s creating another pointless economic barrier to participating in culture

A thought I’ve had about this whole push to go fully digital in games is what does this mean about games accessibility? For example, I grew up playing a console generation behind. I only had the games I had because of things like yard sales, trading with friends, and trading in copies I didn’t want.

This paper has been a REALLY long time coming. It's about a course I taught for many years called Tools of Inquiry, in which I try to teach students to ask and explore their own mathematical questions, including with technology. It's a little like an introduction to research experience at scale!

I cannot draw for my life. My bad, nowhere to scale drawings were a central component (and regular source of laughter) of my classes. But I also see a difference between hand drawings and publications. This feels particularly aggregious... I would prefer acute angles < 80-100°< obtuse....

VERY true on all counts. In my town of like 1000 there were ZERO "queer kids" at school and the #1 way to make fun of someone was to call them f-- or d---. I was already queer, but couldn't even be an ally on the outside until college (late 90s).

I think there's a microgenerational gap between older Millennials/young Gen-X and younger Millennials/Gen-Z on this - being old enough to understand the Matthew Shepard attack, not knowing any out gay adults, not having many queer kids at school - and worse if you grew up in an exurb/rural vs urban.

After being delayed 3+ hours in MSP, & assuring us that Orange County was extending their curfew for us, when we were about an hour out, they told us we got diverted to LAX because orange county revoked the extension. Luckily, they're gonna send us to SNA in a shuttle bus, but I'm exhausted.

Hot take: Asking students to copy down examples in #MathsToday does more harm than good. Crutch: "I don't need to try to remember/understand now as, I'm writing it down". Cognitive load: "I stop thinking about the maths to start copying". Gap widening: "I'm a slow writer, I never get to ask Qs".

Inverse trig notation. Sin^(-1)(x) is really confusing. Arcsin(x) better.

I used to not like "f o g" but now I see it as a binary operation (operator on two inputs) My preference for function composition is f(g(x)).
