Invariably, these tools have been abused by the gov't - specifically law enforcement. In a short period of time there are a multitude of examples. I agree that tradeoffs can be made (automated speed cameras good, blanket surveillance of neighborhoods bad) but it has quickly progressed too far.

More cops have been arrested for using flock cameras to stalk women than there are trans athletes in youth sports.
