If you're in the UK, especially if you're Cisgender, today is a good day to start wearing a Trans Pin. That bastard EHRC guidance comes into effect today, and we need to know who our friends are.

I booked Rod Liddle as a guest on a show, many years ago, just after he left Today and had started as a columnist. He was a massive arsehole from the moment he arrived till the moment he left. A character trait he went on to demonstrate publicly, in print and on screen till, well, today.

Steam is a very attention seeking, it likes you to do things to it and then it'll reward you 🥵 Posting reviews helps this but more importantly let's other thinking about committing to a game see other players thoughts. Leaving reviews is quick and helps a lot, gwan.

If you enjoyed Hob's Barrow please consider posting a very quick little review on Steam, they really help to keep us afloat! 🙏💜 Incredibly much appreciated. store.steampowered.com/app/1182310/...

"this stuff actually IS valuable. if it wasn't, people wouldn't be stealing it. rewatching hbomberguy's plagiarism video and just having to pause at the obvious but easily forgotten point that I needed to feel with my whole soul at this moment.

No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.

AI labs buy, scan, shred millions of rare books

If you have retreated to physical books because the internet is too full of AI slop, bad news — now they’re shredding the books to feed their AI slop machines.

Hmmm. I read the Emily Wilson review of Nolan's The Odyssey and not sure what the hubbub is about. Are negative reviews not allowed anymore? Some nuance of her points seems flattened in the criticisms of the review, too.

Let's just tax the shit out of Starbucks. When they leave, we'll use that tax money to subsidise VAT breaks for independent coffee shops who can pickup all the ex-Starbs workers. Like rehoming battery hens, they'll grow new plumage and flourish ☕

I am going to GAMESCOM We're supporting some awesome titles, so if you're a creator or a journalist, get in touch! I'm also in the market for small beers* and chats with friendly faces. (And no, I don't know what "Opening Max Live" means either. *plenty of

A chapter in my book details the conditions that led to GG2, which was more palatable and monetizable than the 1st version. One factor: Games media's rapid erosion in 2021-2022, coupled with legacy institutions like IGN focusing on commercial endeavors and studio- and SEO-friendly articles.

Interesting that almost all analysis of Xbox in freefall completely ignores an organized boycott intended to harm the company financially. Meanwhile, multiple news stories on the home page all month about PlayStation boycotts that haven't even happened yet.

Game Pass was supposed to be the all-you-can-play subscription service that put Xbox on top after a disastrous generation. Instead, it's a failure that's threatening to ruin the company. https://bit.ly/4pIIUau

People writing books and/or RPG adventures, what’s the nerdiest, most pointless bit of research you’ve done in the name of worldbuilding that you very probably didn’t need to do & no one else cared about? I just found my old notes with all the phases of the moon & tides in Northern England in 1566

‘Nolan has read at least the first line of my translation of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘥𝘺𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘺 into iambic pentameter. In one interview, he cited my version of it: “Tell me about a complicated man.” But I would be ashamed to have written any part of this script.’ New, by Emily Wilson www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

A complicated game

Who gets credit for Order of the Sinking Star? Where should the names appear for the creators of its source material? And would you notice if a great game designer sat next to you?

my face when I googled something about my game darkwebSTREAMER and the genAI response declared that a man designed the pioneering language system that I, a woman, designed we were talking about erasure of women's achievements by LLMs YESTERDAY and today i see this? goddamn.

post shows a screenshot of google's AI response, then a question, then another response, with the following text:

Would you like to know more about how they built the procedural internet, details on the game's Twitch integration, or its estimated release date?

(human reply)
howo did they build the procedural internet

(google AI)
The development team behind darkwebSTREAMER bypassed standard game design templates to build what they call the "world's first procedurally generated internet". Instead of relying on static, pre-written text, the studio created a dynamic, reactive ecosystem using a custom-engineered blend of linguistic frameworks, anthropology, and proprietary Al systems.

Rather than utilizing modern Large Language Models (LLMs) which can break immersion or hallucinate incorrectly, they engineered a highly controlled, rule-based simulation from the ground up. Natural Language Processing (NLP) Architecture
• Dynamic Content Creation: Lead programmer Tony Li used his background in linguistics to design a bespoke NLP system. This system constructs text elements on the fly-including dark web forum posts, emails, and chat room logs-ensuring that grammar, syntax, and phrasing match a 1990s internet dialect.

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.
