There is a corner of the internet I had never heard of before I started reporting this story. It’s called the “burnerverse”: a network of anon burner accounts ostensibly discussing college sports. But they have another goal: destroying young girls’ lives.🧵: www.wired.com/story/burner...

Maddie Kowalski is one of countless young women who’ve had their lives destroyed by the burnerverse, a loosely connected online community of sports fans. Now she’s fighting back.

In response to this, the DeSantis administration releases a statement saying that they'd make this outrageous cage "even smaller if we could." The Department of Homeland Security's own Inspector General said it violated every detention standard and posed a significant danger to health and safety.

"At least ten million illegal aliens entered our country under the Biden administration. Florida decided to do something about it," Lanfranconi said. "The left-wing media wants to focus on a confinement area for violent criminal aliens who have proven they cannot remain peaceful while awaiting deportation. While it adheres to all federal standards for criminal confinement, we'd make it even smaller if we could."

NEW: DHS's Inspector General releases a scathing report about the Everglades detention camp known as "Alligator Alcatraz." The OIG finds that the now-closed camp, violated multiple ICE standards. The OIG also confirms detainees were punished with placement in a metal cage in the Florida heat.🧵

OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL
U.S. Department of Homeland Security
Staff also reported that time spent in the small metal enclosures is closely monitored, and
detainees are not locked in, even though we observed locking mechanisms on the enclosures.
Figures 11 and 12. Small Metal Enclosures; Observed January 21, 2026

Underneath is a picture of a metal cage that is 4 feet 3 inches wide by 4 feet 3 inches long, and 7 feet 9 inches high. The cage itself is placed on a tiny spot of fake turf, and then surrounded by another chainlink fence with razor wire on top. The cage is covered by a roof, but it's entirely exposed to the outside otherwise, meaning mosquitos and no air conditioning.

You find a new comedian who’s funny and isn’t doing crowd work in 2026 😁 He does skits and posts lil tiktoks 😃 “Oh he does impressions” 😐 “What it’s like to stop at a drive thru in Baltimore” in his worst Black voice😕 You googled his name and his socials and see he reposts alt-right content🤦🏽‍♂️

I, the only data reporter at the Charlotte Observer, am among the McClatchy layoffs in the bloodbath today. The HR person asked me not to talk about it! AMA. Anyway, here’s a link to one of my most important stories this year. www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/a...

In the span of a week, Missouri's 2025 map was: - Blocked by a Missouri Supreme Court opinion, which the U.S. Supreme Court declined to interfere with. - Restored by a federal district court decision, and upheld by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals - Blocked again by the U.S. Supreme Court.

#BREAKING: Over *no* public dissents, #SCOTUS *stays* the federal district court’s TRO in the Missouri redistricting case, effectively restoring the Missouri Supreme Court ruling from last week (and the 2022 map that it requires the state to use in November).

"I know they don't support separate drinking fountains in New York and California and other coastal states but if a Democrat needs to back separate but equal facilities in Alabama to win, progressives should just hold their tongues" - how you sound defending Democrats opposing trans equality

Is there an app like Untappd but for dipping sauces instead of beer? I would very much like to rate, check-in, and catalogue various BBQ and other delicious sauces and then earn badges based on my sauce consumption. If not, can someone please make one??
