JKR explicitly said she considers anything Potter-related, even fan-made, endorsement of her politics. And every time you engage with this franchise, you signal to the industry that there's still money in it and they should keep pumping out content from full-cast audiobooks to book box partnerships.

We want the media and politicians to recognise that there is a large number of women who are supportive of the trans+ community. We call on them to report truthfully about the sources of violence against women and to address the systems that perpetuate harm. notinourname.org.uk/s/zDwUWi
Women in support of the trans+ community - Not in our name

These messages are from UK women who know that behind every headline is a human being who deserves kindness, dignity and joy. We hope these words bring even a small moment of comfort to trans+ people in the UK today. 💗 #WithTheT #NotInOurName
REMEMBER The guidance coming into effect today doesn't dictate what you're allowed to do as an individual. It for service providers and business owners. Do not cower in fear, do not reduce yourself, do not isolate, that is one of the intended effects.
This is another thread with links to guidance for trans or gender non conforming folks possibly at risk of challenge for using single sex spaces. It differs from the last one I shared, but has good advice about safety and remembering not to victim blame & options do differ.
I am using the goodweeplace.com scripts & have them printed off
A great 90 second video explainer of the key issues that @goodlawproject.org are challenging in the new EHRC Statutory Code of Practice for Service Providers which 'went live' today. As ever with legalling, it's picking your battles. I encourage anyone who can to support this.
The government’s transphobic code of practice is now up and running. But we’re not going to stand still and take it, we're supporting a legal challenge led by a trans person and a trans inclusive organisation. But we can only do this together. Will you join us?👇 goodlaw.social/ldco
Most trans folk I know will keep using the spaces they've always used - quietly and normally and no one will notice (unless they're an obsessed bigot). I see different guidance for anyone challenged on use of spaces. They differ in approach. I don't think there's a 'right' or 'wrong' way.
Hopefully of some use: translucent.org.uk/the-labour-p...
Solidarity and love to my trans friends who today, like me and my autistic friends yesterday, are once again having their right to exist litigated in the media
🚨 BREAKING We are supporting a legal challenge to the Code of Practice. And we need your help. Join us in fighting back 👇

Pubic Service Announcement The Vagina Museum is trans inclusive. Always has been, always will be. Today the new EHRC Code of Practice comes into effect. Let us be clear, the guidance changes nothing about how we operate.
People who are kind don't need to be told to be kind. People who are not kind will not be kind, no matter what you tell them to do. Don't waste your life.
My life would be EASIER with gen-AI everywhere. Less crap in search results, fewer AI-chatbots instead of clear info or human service, less dealing with students worrying about gen-AI or those hauled up for suspected use (biggest impact). I recognise some people find it helpful but still YUCK.
My answer is LOL ROFL (dickbrain) The terminally AI-pilled can't even *imagine* some people have *never* asked stochastic parrots to cheat at their job for them.
There’s an answer to this: He was “one of them” and therefore a “real person” rather than all the disabled and queer people he attacked. We don’t count. So the fact he hit women and perved on children is more acceptable than the rest of us having an opinion…
If “he took no prisoners” then why should any of the many people he targeted in life be expected to? Seriously; why is the rich, racist, white misogynist who was homophobic, transphobic and a bully while telling everyone that he wanted to sleep with 14 year old children, entitled to priority?
There is something Ive been trying to parse out in my writing about how disability studies in the "west" sometimes with the best of intentions fails to comprehend how the perhaps-less-individualist cultures of South Asia etc can produce their own acute, distinctive, harmful iterations of ableism.
The GCs are uniting in their grief over Rod Liddle's death, a man who assaulted his young pregnant girlfriend and said he couldn't be a teacher because he'd rape the kids. He was also a vicious racist, long before it was so profitable. He hated trans people, so, to these 'feminists' he's a hero.
2018 summary of some of Liddle's 'track history'. No pretending or claiming he was just a lovable rogue who wasn't afraid to "say it as it is" etc etc about Female, Black, Muslim, Disabled, Gay, Trans and other people.
There's an honest Obit here. www.media-diversity.org/rod-liddles-...
FYI that, in news that surprises no-one, major care providers are sending a lot of press releases to journalists that are being published as articles on social care.
We need to talk more about the role post-92s play in creating opportunities for these audiences (in all subject areas, although these are particularly at risk at Herts and beyond atm).
Students who need to remain local will no longer be able to study History, English, Philosophy etc. That means working class, carers, mature students etc etc

A Miss Griffiths in years 7-9. Newly qualified, scared the hell out of us = gave us space to learn. Grasped who the Readers were and tried to choose class books we'd not read. Mrs Lake, GCSE years. I missed a lot of school due to vertigo/overload, Mrs L worked out the fewest assignments needed /1
Who was YOUR great english teacher (if you had one)? For me it was Hugh Epstein at Richmond college (RUTC). I hope he's well, wherever he is!
Thoughts on the dead singer. Yesterday, my middle aged straight hairy biker son went on one on social media about the dead singer and those eulogising him. He did not hold back. What was unusual was that he took to social media to vent knowing it would attract vile bile. I asked him why.

🧵On @thenewsagents.co.uk yesterday, school closures and the lab leak theory were offered as two examples of legitimate questions that were hard to ask. Both have in fact been asked constantly since 2020. But here's a thread on why I think they were wrong and dangerous on school closures 1/12

This is the future if we tolerate this. I mean, they already have appliances like smart refrigerators playing ads and no one is doing anything about it. We shouldn’t put up with this.

there are a lot of philosophical concepts that get egregiously misused out of the seminar room (and in the seminar room, to be fair). but in terms of sheer pernicious misuse "social construct" has gotta be top 5 somewhere and it's not number 5

If Amnesty UK is on your donations list, remove them. If you are considering making a charitable donation, or organizing a fundraiser, loudly announce Amnesty won't get a penny of it so long as they capitulate to transphobia.
Amnesty have issued an apology to JK Rowling and the rest. Adjust your expectations, and donations, accordingly www.amnesty.org.uk/latest/an-ap...
I think we need to actually restate how wild it is how much anti trans activism there is, and the extreme degree. We're getting two high court decisions on trans rights today alone that have huge consequences for trans people's lives (strip searching and puberty blockers). In one DAY
My dad & sister rely on social care so for me, PM's already raised a low bar (22 reviews in 30 yrs) but: -remember kids/working age adults -crack down on profit hungry private 'care' firms -include more than the usual bods in the Big Conversation -rebrand it DSCH* *not really but elevate the SC bit
