I hate all those records in the Top 40 - Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston. I think they're vile in the extreme... the first pop songs I really remember being fascinated by to the point of being riveted were the Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed" and Soft Cell's "Tainted Love," but I think my first real "oh my GOD" moment was when my dad was driving me around and put "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" on the tape deck

Very, very sad news. Johnson played on basically every record that came out of LA from about 1955 to 75. Johnny Otis, Larry Williams, the Pink Panther theme, Pet Sounds, Let's Get It On, Gris-Gris... he was *the* LA session sax player from even before the Wrecking Crew became a thing.
