Medievalist who loves reading, especially science fiction & fantasy. I don't speak for my employer or anyone else. she/her

I can’t stop thinking about “changing the framing is a tool that’s right there for you to grasp” it’s the best way I’ve ever heard anyone articulate the rage I feel when the left just grants the right’s talking points (in particular, though naturally not limited to, trans kids in sports)

It is, ultimately, damaging your ability to accomplish things long term or to win elections long term because you assume that you can't change the framing of the conversation even though changing the framing is a tool that's right there for you to grasp. It's incompetence. Malpractice.

ChatGPT killed her. But ChatGPT isn't responsible. The people who created ChatGPT and continue to insist we need no guardrails are, and they should be held legally culpable. How many more people have to die before we take this problem seriously?

Gut punch of a story about an Amazon engineer who trusted ChatGPT-4o to manage and reduce her seizure med dosages. You'd hope someone who made it into a top engineering position would have known the limits of AI circa May 2024 www.nytimes.com/2026/10/27/w...

I have an English class, mostly non-majors, 1st years, who have to do research. I demonstrated databases in class repeatedly and gave related assignments. Now they're citing predatory journals. Anyone got a good, quick guide for new college students on avoiding predatory pubs?

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

not anything like the point at hand, but I cannot help but think a guy whose boss called him and said to stop hooking with his students because it would be too much work to sort out left completely shaken and instead of taking the absolutely undeserved escape...he wrote a magazine article??

"it nearly cost me everything" no it didn't because the dean had your back and didn't want to do anything about it.

The dean called me into his office a week later. The conversation was measured, professional. He did not accuse me of anything specific. He spoke about boundaries and optics. About how quickly rumors travel. He said that no formal complaint had been filed and that he would prefer to keep it that way. He suggested I consider how easily situations can be misinterpreted.

I left his office shaken. Not because I had been exonerated, but because I had been spared.

"The party left me. I used to be a Democrat, but know that Obama has made fun of Trump for making the White House look like a dictator designed an over-the-top chain restaurant I favor starving African children and bringing measles back"

This is literally the end of the rule of law. If a President can pardon people committing crimes on his behalf - and the Supreme Court says he himself can't be prosecuted for crimes committed as part of his job - then the government becomes a lawless entity able to violate our rights without limit.

"The strain is so virulent that if a single chicken tests positive, the U.S. government requires farmers to kill the whole flock to protect other farms as well as public health. Poultry farmers are reimbursed for the loss. Reporter found two workers from farm: "One had a visibly red eye."

2/ This outbreak has been raging uncontrolled for two months. Flu experts fear it could spark a devastating human pandemic. But the federal government has brushed off the issue, and Utah has prioritized the fur industry’s interests.
