People forget that J6 was successful. Everyone who participated was let out of jail and the guy who perpetrated it is President again. There were no consequences. They have plenty of incentive to do a much bigger and worse version.

ProPublica and The Texas Tribune reviewed Ken Paxton's travel records dating back to 2015. Paxton has taken nearly 1,000 trips with a state-funded security detail, costing $3.3 million. The outlets could only connect 138 of those trips and $553,000 in security costs to actual state business.

An ex-pat I know sent her ballot via FedEx. The local election board that received it was charged over $30 in duty fees. (My acquaintance was contacted by the BoE to pay that fee.)

people keep reposting my stuff from a couple days ago like "but I buy all the banned books!" "my classroom reads all the--" man you have no idea how many books are being banned. it's THOUSANDS. looking it up gives you top 100 at MOST. banning hurts authors. hands down. stop trying to make it okay

Troy Jackson: "The gentleman's name was Johan Sebastian Guerrero. He had a 3 year old daughter. The only mistake he made that morning was going to work. Because Sen. Collins is not willing to stand up to Donald Trump, he was murdered in the streets of Biddeford for doing nothing wrong."

It’s really remarkable to me that 10 years into this people feel compelled to “clarify” Trump’s homicidal and often genocidal fantasies. It is deranged for the president to daydream about American cities in states he hates getting blown up. Full stop.

The First Amendment wasn’t actually “first.” The original First Amendment was meant to ensure that the House of Representatives grew in loose proportion to the country. Instead, the House’s size hasn’t changed since 1911. Today’s “One First” on that history—and the problems a capped House creates:

Bonus 256: The Original “First” Amendment

The only provision from the original Bill of Rights that was never adopted would've grown the House in proportion to the country. We should revisit it.

you don’t hold "AI" accountable; you hold AI developers, vendors, and corporations that profit off it accountable holding "AI accountable" is like holding a toaster accountable. it's an inanimate object. it doesn't have wishes, feelings, or desires

Listened to Morning Edition on my local NPR station today. So tired of them just amplifying Trump’s statements without qualifying that they were lies. Then they did an interview with a progressive book author, but essentially gave Trump the last word by quoting him as a response.

*so important*: if you’re voting by mail, assume the USPS will delay because it’s its policy. You can: —put it in drop box —go to counter to watch them postmark in front of you —if you’re dropping it in a mailbox, do it VERY EARLY.

Many states require that mail ballots be postmarked by a specific day. But due to a USPS rule announced late last year, voters may need to put their ballot in a mailbox days in advance.

Must be Ren Faire season. My YT algorithm has flipped to Jacques Ze Whipper videos. I’m ok with this. Gonna have to see if I can get it to throw in some Tiny Girl Big Show.

Okay. So here's what I know - I lost my day job. - I hated my day job. - I liked having a lot of money and health insurance. - But a lot of money never made me happier, I just owned more stuff. - I do still need health insurance. - I'm really fucking good at lettering comic books.
