NEW: The Pope is doubling down. In Cameroon today: “Woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their own military, economic, or political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth.” 💥 (🎥 Vatican News)

Sooo…about this: Pope Leo is a member of the Order of Saint Augustine and the first Augustinian pope in Catholic Church history. The “just war” theory derives from the teachings of Saint Augustine. That’s what Mike Johnson is claiming to know more about than Pope Leo.

Mike Johnson on the Pope: "If you wade into political waters, you should expect some political response & the Pope has received some. Frankly I was taken a bit aback by him saying something about 'those who engage in war, Jesus doesn't hear their prayers' or something. There's 'just war' doctrine.'"

I can't see the election changing anyone's mind. Trump didn't vote himself into office twice, or force congress to sit back and do nothing while he waged an illegal war that explicitly violates the constitutional limits placed on his power. The US doesn't have a Trump problem, it has a US problem.

In the #FT: 'According to a statement on the TP-Link website, the vulnerability of the company’s routers is a “myth”' Pro tip to PR and corp. comms. people: never, EVER make claims like this on the record!! all s/w has vulnerabilities; this will come back to haunt you. www.ft.com/content/d7e3...

I'm seeing an entrepreneurial opportunity to produce Christmas Crackers (UK) and Fortune Cookies (US) containing messages tailored to our AI future. Let's start with "The more meaning you seek, the more you find, though it is illusory" (For the avoidance of doubt: entirely respectful msg intent)

Fiction writing is such a weird problem space with AI because fiction depends on you, as a reader, assuming meaning behind the writing. And AI is terrific at writing interesting things with high levels of implied meaning. The more meaning you seek, the more you find, though it is illusory.

The fun thing writing about US elections is that it's just so comically polarised. Every race is like: Republican: made millions lobbying for oil companies, has been charged with fraud, tweets racism. Democrat: was a teacher before setting up a charity for needy children. Wants free healthcare.

New post just out "The lifeline election (part one)" With Trump increasingly out-of-control the US midterms have never been more important. In this post I look at whether the Democrats can win Congress - focusing on the nine key Senate races. (£/free trial) open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/t...
