Responding to @beaubaumann.bsky.social’s post today, Prof. Wurman deploys the same rhetoric used against every immigrant group in America. Is this racist, he asks? Judging whether one can be part of America based on a culture’s supposed "capacity" for self-governance is the structure of bigotry.

It's difficult to imagine a more repellant human being, even as a fictional character. I don't think I could make one up.

Yet again I remind everyone (as Elizabeth does in her very next tweet) that "foreigners are corrupting our pure blood with weakness & disease" is Fascism 101. Not some variant, not some metaphorically similar thing, not some echo -- the thing itself.

Someone who used every tool at his disposal to overthrow our democratically elected government is most emphatically not a "good man," and most emphatically does deserve to have his career destroyed.

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

Every single member of the Columbia administration should step down. Through their complicity and their cowardice, they've betrayed their faculty, their staff and most of all their students. There's no way they can lead that university in any meaningful sense from this point on.
