During college I spent a summer working for the Forest Service documenting the loss of ash trees due to the Emerald ash borer. It’s remarkable to me how you can see the gaps in the urban canopy that have been there for 25 years. We should be aggressively and densely planting urban trees.

It's not even 11am yet, and federal agents have gassed the northwest side of Chicago twice this morning. Just before 10, NWSRR reports they detained two people in Irving Park, one of them known to be a US citizen: www.instagram.com/p/DQPKhmDEd4W/

ice and border patrol and continuing their terror campaign across chicagoland this morning. masked agents are active and making abductions in waukegan, des planes, and along the northwest side of the city. abductions from windy city produce and yet more tear gas near schurz high school.

IDK what that means going fwd but it is a Very Big Deal that people with a lot of wealth and political power suddenly feel a personal stake in this issue It's VERY important that it translates into *solidarity* rather than the usual crime/policing "keep this unpleasantness contained to Over There"/

A representative with National Lawyers Guild Chicago tells me 15 people were arrested over the course of the day at Broadview yesterday. All 15 have reportedly been released.

Every day for weeks it feels there is no day gone by without an alert about the BOTY area. There is an action tomorrow led by southwest side rapid response team in which they are demanding the property owners of the Yards Plaza in BOTY stop allowing ICE to use their space as a staging area.

I'm in BotY, Brighton Park, Gage Park, or Englewood a couple times a week. ICE and CBP have been so ever-present there that I have run into multi-vehicle phalanxes of masked agents completely at random on two different occasions in the last three weeks. 47th is a ghost town compared to spring.
