i am doing my best to continue broadcasting what i apply for BEFORE the deadlines (might hurt my own chances but "a rising tide"? or something) SO... i'm currently looking at applying for the arctic educator fellowship described here: polarsteam.info/faq/ more opps: wwcs.padlet.org/amstutzjoshu...
(I have now applied for the Desmos Fellowship and PCMI WRM; I hold a generally favorable view RE: sharing applications, but! I have no idea whether either will be successful lol. If you are interested in the WRM app, lmk and you can see it. +If Fulbright DASTs reemerge, I have one that I can share!)

A lovely read ahead of #TheGradingConference in a few weeks. I especially loved "a bunch of quantitative legalese masquerading as pedagogy" as a turn of phrase—perhaps because it so accurately describes where I, and probably many others, started.
"The work of ungrading is to push back on the culture of grades and quantitative assessment that reinforces hierarchies between students and teachers, while reducing both to a set of crude (often inscrutable) data points." www.jessestommel.com/the-practice...
If you missed Corwin’s webinar with the authors of Pedagogy of Voice, here is the recording. This was such a healing space for me!

Hey west coast math friends, Do I know anyone in Sacramento, Chico, Redding, Eugene, or Portland? I’m planning a solo trip up to WA in a moving van next month and I’d love to make a couple stops along the way.

Educational research funded by the NSF is a threat to authoritarianism and plutocracy. Our work details how to shift schools away from being sites of social reproduction to places of care, social mobility, critical citizenship, and liberation.

He literally spent more hours working for the people at this podium than most Dem Congress folks have since Jan 20
People need to realize the filibuster wasn’t meant to have a practical effect but to be a symbol and a rally point. Beating Thurmond’s record isn’t a hollow victory at all.
So far, the most fun I had was saying "well, in alien math they don't have base-10 blocks. Instead, they have base-10 blocks." 🤣
As a fun Friday math activity, we are doing some Alien math. Teacher friends, I offered this slide to generate some thinking with their first task of writing the first 100 numbers. Would you say the two sentences are correct?

Excellent thread about how accommodations should be universal, a central theme of UDL
As I sat in my son's annual IEP meeting, it's deeply frustrating and sad to think that you need special education accommodations for things that should be considered universal choices & supports. 🤷🏼♂️
My cat just now: Boop me once, shame on you. Boop me twice, shame on me.

My manifesto (er, article) is out in AERA Open today! It’s about how #neoliberal & #racial capitalist logic worms its way into far too many project-based learning experiences, and what #educators can do about it. Come for the righteous anger. Stay for the solutions! @aeraedresearch.bsky.social
