My point here is that there are certain things on which you CANNOT compromise. If you compromise on personhood—just a little bit, just to win the primary—you open the door to dehumanization and genocide. As They Might Be Giants once sang, "can't shake the devil's hand and say you're only kidding."

No, we can’t work on changing their minds. Their thesis is “if we sacrifice the trannies we win.” Once they win, their thesis is proven correct. They have no reason to compromise on that point because they have been proven right.
The sports issue is not about sports. It is about calling trans women men on the TV and in our laws. It is about conjuring images of a scary masculine tranny in the minds of voters. It is about constructing a perceived threat to the cis hetero american family to win votes through fear and bigotry.
