SCOTUS in 2022: Five months before Election Day is too late for Louisiana to redraw its GOP House map that harms Black voters. It must wait until 2024. SCOTUS in 2026: Louisiana may cancel its imminent primary—where >40,000 already voted—to enact basically the same old map that harms Black voters

NEW: The Supreme Court has frequently admonished lower courts for intervening too close to elections but is now facing accusations that it is doing exactly that in a way that helps Republicans draw new districts at breakneck speed: www.nbcnews.com/politics/sup...

When white supremacists described the first black politicians winning elections in the South during Reconstruction, they too called it a "reign of terror" that innocent white people had to suffer under. Black leaders! Elected to federal office! Can you imagine the indignity?!

NEW: U.S. House Rep. Bennie Thompson's "reign of terror" in Mississippi "is over," Gov. Tate Reeves says, urging the ousting of the state's only Black member of Congress through redistricting before the end of 2027. He made that pronouncement even as he canceled a special session on redistricting.

Really is a problem that for every Mark Cuban ("omg I can buy sports teams yay") there are, like, 25 billionaires who believe God has chosen them to cleanse the Earth with fire and to seed the future of humanity. It's just too much damn money, brains can't handle it.

Factory farming humans — one more reason there should be no billionaires “Videogame executive Xu Bo, said to have more than 100 children, and other elites build mega-families, testing citizenship laws and drawing on nannies, IVF and legal firms set up to help them” www.wsj.com/us-news/chin...

Not to belabor a "I told you so", but it's been clear for years that the whole "lab leak" discourse has absolutely nothing to do with a potential lab leak and everything to do with a broader anti-science agenda. I really, and truly, hope more scientists will realize this and take corrective action.

Atlantic: Why RFK Jr.’s Anti-Vaccine Campaign Is Working The Trump administration’s COVID-revenge campaign has laid the groundwork for Kennedy’s larger agenda. by Katherin J. Wu bit.ly/4mfxk3S

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence. They are in charge.

Watch the slow motion: it appears to me that the officers discuss the photographer and reporter before the one on the end fires on them (it looks to me like he's aiming at the camera, not the reporter, but you decide)

there are so many thoroughly antisocial behaviors that would shock and disturb you coming from any other human being but are completely standard for cops

I want to emphasize that this is 18,000 avoidable deaths per year *of Medicare enrollees.* They aren't in CBO's "uninsured" count — they're older people and folks with disabilities on Medicare who won't get extra financial help because of a proposed moratorium on a regulation.

CBO projects that House reconciliation bill will cause 1.38 million low-income Medicare beneficiaries to lose Medicaid coverage We estimate that this will lead to over 18,000 avoidable deaths per year stemming from loss of drug subsidies Link to our memo led by @pennldi.bsky.social: bit.ly/4mwfcDA

Every Harry Potter book or shirt you buy directly funds the persecution of trans people. There's absolutely no excuse to support anything Harry Potter anymore unless you hate trans people.

Yep. It's not possible to understand politics today, much less predict future trends, without recognizing that a large segment of the population lives in an alternate reality increasingly untethered from the real world via nonstop right-wing propaganda on every issue.

Because I use FB to monitor “conservative” content, my algorithm is just swimming with emotionally activating and entirely false propaganda like this. [Billy Joel has a medical condition that caused him to cancel.]

This is one of the highest-selling tickets in the country, if you like that type of music. They do ten days at small venues and take requests from the crowd. This year, Billy has elected to sit out.
Billy Joel canceled his summer concert series with Bruce Springsteen after the negative publicity from his disrespectful comments:
"Music and politics don't mix."
Ticket holders will be issued a full refund.

boy if I was the editor of the NYT (Harvard class of 1987) I might be thinking twice about why I empowered a racist attack on the institution for weeks, laying the groundwork for the deranged policy attacks of today.
