I recently watched Iron Man (2008) for the first time in over a decade, and it's a real lightbulb moment to realize that every executive, business bro and tech guy currently obsessed with using ChatGPT or Claude or whatever thinks they're like Tony Stark talking to Jarvis

SoftBank’s investor presentation is one of the greatest things ever made. I’ve been thinking about it all day. These are the real slides shown in a speech where Masayoshi Son said he wouldn’t retire for at least another decade. The goose stuff is truly demented. Bravo group.softbank/media/Projec...

🧵Grays Court, York is an architectural jigsaw puzzle spanning some 1,000 years: built on Norman foundations, expanded with a grand Jacobean gallery, refined with Georgian panelling, modernised with a Victorian bow room, and more recently restored into a luxury hotel. Phew! Tucked

This view captures Grays Court Hotel and its award-winning gardens, set against the magnificent backdrop of York Minster. This historic manor is one of the oldest continuously inhabited houses in the UK. Parts of the house date back to the 11th century, commissioned by the first Norman Archbishop of York. It features the only privately owned garden with direct access to the York City Walls. Image: Grays Court Hotel Allan Harris (alh1) CC BY-ND 4.0

Pierre Bourdieu once argued that the question of whether something is art isn't answered by the artist's intention or even the object itself. Instead, the quality of being "art" is conferred by a community — curators, dealers, auction houses, audiences, etc. 🧵

Someone on Threads writes: "The Met Gala feels like real dystopian shit.

People can’t afford groceries or gas. But we’re going to celebrate this event which is nothing more than wealth porn."

I’ve said it before I’ll say it again, make your AI slop if you must, but making books for children is a privilege and a responsibility and you’re doing a gross disservice to kids if you let AI anywhere near the stories you’re telling them.

Perhaps if we all agreed to stop listening and reacting to the mad, rambling pronouncements, we could maybe get on with our lives?

Can we please stop referring to it as a social media "ban". It should never have been allowed for under 16s in the first place - see tobacco and alcohol. But then a rebalancing doesn't grab as many headlines or ragebait...

Nick McCabe is one of the best guitarists the UK has ever produced and the main reason why The Verve were such a great band. Without him they'd have been peddling sub-Travis tripe. Just look at Richard Ashcroft's solo career for the proof.
