On "gatekeeping", writing is the price of entry to being a writer. It's the only bar you have to clear.

I do think ai detectors are nonsense and that there is an obvious racial bias in who gets actually cancelled for ai (as with anything else) but on the other hand this particular guy's own agents distrusted him enough to turn down a six figure payday so the benefit of the doubt only goes so far
Sitting on the terrace of the Dôme, drinking Pernods and talking about sanity with enormous hollows under my eyes.
its disrespectful to your own body to unthinkingly advertise something on it
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
I passed a guy in the street who was saying to a woman, "The euphoria … it was just incredible. I can see how people get addicted," so I lingered in front of them and it turned out they were talking about claw machines
"A straight line is a lie we tell ourselves; the crooked path is the truth the river knows, for it is only by wandering that we find our way home." Virginia Woolf
Rare and pleasant to find a reading of Le Guin's *Omelas* that recognises the depth of her ethical inquiry.
"Those who treat Omelas as a utilitarian allegory wish to view the child as a concession, a 'gotcha' moment illustrating the ethical quandary alleged to inhere in all joys and comforts. But such a reading is erroneous."
Tiernan's story is amazingly fucked up Check it out!

When I get to the shop it is open. I carry the papers in. The shopkeeper and I agree that it’s warm. The screen that I have to tap to pay needs rebooting. It takes ages to warm up. The shopkeeper says ‘Sometimes the screen is also tired.’

The only sci-fi we have going in real life is Children of Men, and it is genuinely disconcerting to hear from evangelists who not only cannot see it but genuinely appear to think they’re Buck Rogers

"Juries are being cut for political reasons. The descent into authoritarianism is being promoted by govts and now, it seems, by the judiciary, or at least this particular representative of the judiciary. Rajiv, stand firm, and when you look round, there are 1000s behind you": Michael Mansfield KC
We must remember the Utøya massacre, and remember it for what it was: a far-right attack specifically targeted against democratic socialist activists. Today, the ideologies of its perpetrator are openly espoused by a global network of nationalist oligarchs as they wage war on democratic societies.
Fifteen years ago today, 77 lives were taken - most of them young - on an island that should have been a place of summer, friendship, and first ideas about the world they wanted to build. On that day, Norway grieved, and Europe grieved with it. Utøya. Oslo. We remember.
Mention of Bob Hoskins on the timeline has me watching this on repeat several times again
