the amount of fucking astroturfing for the Moda Center renovation on the local news (this is NBC/Channel 8) is disgustingly laughable

Another LinkedIn post advocating for public funding of Moda Center renovations under the name of “We Are Rip City.” What I found most interesting here was the word “volunteer,” because Cody works for an AI automation software developer in town called Customer.io as the director of demand creation.

Nothing says “public safety” like trying to siphon away clean energy money while I’ve been nursing a raging headache for two days from wildfire smoke.

A ballot initiative that sought to direct 25 percent of Portland’s Clean Energy Fund toward hiring additional police officers failed to gather enough valid signatures to qualify for the November ballot.

In the recent council work session, Dewayne Hankins, Blazers pres. of business ops, said “the first-class standard has been wielded as a weapon, chilling our negotiations.” He says this is why they’ve shared little (basically nothing) about what the renovations entail because they fear litigation.

The Blazers are demanding Portland give up a primary bargaining chip: the fact that the current lease says the Blazers have to maintain the arena in first-class condition. So much of the negotiations, or lack thereof, hinge on this one point. Idk if I’ll have time for a full write up, so here’s a 🧵

I posted about it a little bit this morning. There were a lot of people and it was very loud. I could only handle about an hour of the sound; my Apple Watch warned me of the high decibel level. No NA cocktails, which is weird in Portland 2026. I heard complaints. It’s very extroverted energy.

And actually liking the city costs less than buying multiple billboards and renting out Moda Center to tell everyone how little you and your buddies think of the place.

Because the loudest voices in the city want you to forget this, I just want to say Portland is great. There are so many people who love this city so much and show up every day to make it more welcoming and more just. It’s a beautiful place full of people who give a shit.

In the interest of continuing negotiations unencumbered, all future references to "court room" will be replaced by "happy fun palace" while "Patrick Adams" and "Gabriel Macht" will stand in for "suit" and "lawsuit," respectively.

This needs to be said out loud: The Blazers are negotiating in bad faith. If matters progress to the court room, the team's conduct is not going to be viewed favorably.

This is just the arena’s existing policy on signs that’s on the Rose Quarter website for all events (rosequarter.com/plan-your-vi...). The team hasn’t made any public statements about anything surrounding tonight’s game. Incredibly misleading and irresponsible to frame this like that.

Well, KGW isn't sugarcoating the Blazers and Moda Center coverage.
