Spooky little hottie with nothing to show for it. she/her

Saw a couple of posts from US artists saying BSky is now asking them for age verification. Please follow the link in this repost. I’m the UK we’ve had this crap going on for over a year. The methods listed here work great, it’s what I use it (no way I’m providing personal info!)

UK folks: If UBlock is not working anymore for you to bypass the UK age restriction rules (no way I'm giving them personal info), please be aware that the codes to copy/paste into UBlock's filter rules have changed! gist.github.com/mary-ext/6e2...

I am so tired and trying so hard not to slide into hopelessness. Also I know part of the reason I feel this shitty is because my blood sugar is low. But ohhhhhh boy the urge to just slide into doomerism is so fucking strong.

This Day in Labor History: June 21, 1877. Ten alleged members of the Molly Maguires, an Irish secret society blamed for labor radicalism in the anthracite country of Pennsylvania, were executed. Let's talk about the Mollies, or at least what we know about this pretty secret organization!

...for every one of those cool senior portraits of a girl in full goth makeup and accessories from the 90s/00s, there's gotta be at least one girl like me whose mother sent her to get professional makeup done to trick her out of being goth in the photos.

H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban all my books, & any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps & say: NO ON H.R. 7661!

A digital drawing of author Maia Kobabe, a white nonbinary person with short brown hair wearing a patterned blue shirt, who scowls while holding up a copy of eir book GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR. Maia is saying: H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban my books, and any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps and say: NO ON H.R. 7661!

Just finished the Behind the Bastards episodes on the impact of Jeffrey Epstein. And like a takeway is that he started funding anti-trans research because he allegedly SA'd a trans girl (she was 16 at the time) who turned around and sued his ass for it and he was mad that she sued him.

As a fucking parent TALK TO YOUR FUCKING KIDS THEN. Worried they'll see porn? Talk to them about porn. Worried they'll see gore? Talk to them about gore. Worried they'll get groomed? Talk to them about red flags and cultivate trust with them so they won't feel they have to hide things from you.

"As a parent, I am deeply concerned about what my child is accessing online. Albeit not enough to check or to install some very basic software that would prevent them from accessing dodgy material online. That's why the Online Safety Act is so important."

TN is considering a new bill that allows parents to sue large platforms that allow "material harmful to minors"— including sculpture, drawings, photos, music or video games— that describe or depict nudity, sex or "excessive violence" The censorship that started with "porn" is coming for everything.

(1) Any picture, photograph, drawing, sculpture, motion picture film, video game, computer software game, or similar visual representation or image of a person or portion of the human body, that depicts nudity, sexual conduct, excess violence, or sado-masochistic abuse, and that is harmful to minors; or
(2) Any book, pamphlet, magazine, printed matter, however reproduced, or sound recording, which contains any matter enumerated in subdivision (a)(1), or that contains explicit and detailed verbal descriptions or narrative accounts of sexual excitement, sexual conduct, excess violence, or sadomasochistic abuse, and that is harmful to minors.

I hear from people who are surprised I'm still talking about ICE, they thought they'd withdrawn from MN. No, they have not. In some respects they've escalated. Some asked why MN is a target. Are there are there a lot more illegals or criminals here? No, it's not about that. It's about a grudge.

The fact that Bad Bunny's halftime show made white bigots angry and feel excluded is A GOOD THING. It's one of the best things about it. It's not a problem to solve. It's a solution to pursue. Bigots *should* feel excluded. We should find *more* ways to celebrate the reality of USian diversity.

I am glad everyone is remembering Surya Bonaly and the outrageous way she was mistreated. I was a big fan as a kid during her too-brief career and the obviously biased judging was a major reason why I lost all interest in figure skating.

book i'm reading rn ('No Machos or Pop Stars: When the Leeds Art Experiment Went Punk') makes this point in the prolog- a brief period of no cost education and housing resulted in working class students studying art, enriching both themselves and their communities

Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum. Not a free pass for corporate-owned slop engines.

A reminder that ICE hasn’t slowed down in Minneapolis at all. Outside of Minnesota, it might feel like everything has changed since Alex Pretti’s murder. But ICE hasn’t actually lost any power and they’re continuing to terrorize our communities.

BTW, if Senate Dems want technical reforms, here's one: amend 8 USC 1357 so DHS agents do not have power to arrest without a judicial warrant unless they are GS-1811, grade of GS-13 or higher. Real criminal investigations would be unaffected, but CBP & ICE goon squads would be severely limited.
