ICE has killed three people this week. But a liberal at my World Cup watch party used the words “football,” “pitch,” and “kit,” plus “sport” as a plural noun. I have never felt more politically homeless.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Political norms on fire over Orion's belt.I watched racist gerrymanders glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."

Rutger Hauer delivering the "tears in rain" monologue from Blade Runner. Likely corpse Mitch McConnell's face has been superimposed over Hauer's.

The reason why it is essential to read IN BULK when studying history is not simply to amass empirical knowledge—though that is important, too, of course—but because *interpretation* requires thick contextual awareness, and there is NO SHORTCUT for building that up that awareness.

*taps sign* its precisely because racism is falsified by the empirical evidence and refuted by logical argument that racists must pounce on and cling to, sensationalize and fetishize, isolated incidents whose surface impressions speciously confirm their prejudice its pure lizard brain activation

We looked at some of Musk's recent language and tropes. They're getting more fascistic. He's endorsed the concept of "Reconquista" and is flirting heavily with the idea that isolated crimes by immigrants reveal a deeper genocidal intent toward whites. 3/ newrepublic.com/article/2119...

This incredible oak ship’s figurehead is Germanic. Dating to the early C5th AD, you can just imagine these looming out of the sea mists as the first Germanic warriors, who went on to become the Anglo-Saxons, arrived on English shores after the Romans departed. Amazing find. 🏛️📷

This is very sad and I truly feel for these farmers. But let’s be clear about why anyone selects a candidate. It’s not to obtain some specific policy outcome. Brad voted for Trump bc he liked the way Trump made him feel (powerful) and bc all his buddies were voting for Trump, too.

Brad voted Trump bc he promised to be “the most pro-farmer president you’ve ever had.” Instead, tariffs cut Brad’s export market; the war surged fertilizer prices by 70%. So Brad arranged his family’s final sale. “Farm is going dry,” said the ad. “Every cow must go.” www.nytimes.com/2026/05/03/u...
