Thinking about who would narrate my life and it’d probably be the voice of the Magic Pencil bit from the BBC’s Word and Pictures “all the way round, up and down”

I rewatched Threads (1984) earlier via the new release by @severinfilms.bsky.social which includes a replica of the UK Government Protect and Survive booklet and a superb doc on the making of, called Survivors: The Spectre of Threads, with an appearance by @westonfront.bsky.social!
I had a whole day trip out planned for today but delayed fatigue from donating blood a few days ago hit me like a truck this morning and has left me feeling pretty low but there’s hope for a second attempt on Friday
RE: the Space X rocket I’m just grateful that the Moon ISN’T a big egg
Being a church treasurer must be an insane job because sometimes she's using our hardship find to help really vulnerable people secure housing, and sometimes she's checking receipts for bottles of wine that we're gonna turn into Jesus, and sometimes she's asking me why I've bought the church an axe.
The curse of being a church treasurer is that sometimes you get to do something that really helps someone out and sometimes you say something that makes you sound like George Osborne
EHRC Code of Practice comes into effect today so remember to be an absolute pain in the arse to any service provider who is trying to actively enforce it.
since oscilloscope graphics are doing the rounds again, here's some photos from that time a few years ago when I built a gizmo to show dril tweets (and assorted other nonsense) on my ancient Tek 466
the battery on my phone isn’t holding a charge very well anymore so i’ll probably need to get a new phone soon. i’ll keep you all posted on the timetable. while i’m not an expert on spiritual matters, my best guess is that you’ll all be reincarnated
I remember X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008) being pretty bad, so much so that I have never revisited it in any X-Files rewatch since. Yet, I’m pretty intrigued by this “Vrach Frankenshteyn“ director’s cut. You could say that “I want to believe”?
Anyway, I approve of how BFI throw in extra archive material in to their Blu Ray releases that are only tangentially related to the film they are accompanying
BFI’s Blu Ray release of Akira Kurosawa’s Ikiru includes amongst its special features, a 1972 documentary called It's Ours Whatever They Say about the families on an Islington estate vs the council to get a playground built on a derelict lot instead of a car park and I found myself pretty invested
Christians should be banned from playing sports. Jesus provides them with additional strength, which gives them unfair advantage.
If you go onto Bluesky and trash Vimes’ Boots you are quite plainly looking for a fight. The quality of your argument is beside the point, you are here to push buttons.
Will Stancil coming after the “Sam Vimes ‘Boots’ Theory of Socio-Economic Unfairness” is he? He’s about to become Will Stencil Around His ☠️ Body
Bad Lieutenant (1992) - Abel Ferrara Bad Lieutenant: New Orleans (2009) - Werner Herzog Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo (2026) - Takashi Miike Bad Lieutenant ??? (2043)
First blood donation of the year following delays due to surgery and illness (migraines) and it appeared I was overflowing given it took several attempts afterwards to stop the flow
Here are some creepy things about livers. OK if you put a liver from a big dog into a small dog the liver will shrink to fit. After liver transplant sometimes fragments break off and can implant elsewhere in the body & start growing more liver. Liver cells often have two nuclei! (illegal manoeuvre)
"Being trans is sad Being trans is horrid." Shut up. Being trans is great. Look. I've got inner peace and a fucking scythe.
Today at the convent: the nuns have been teaching me to scythe.
Don't think about eating me I can see you I got eyes
Goats coming down from the hills to reclaim Llandudno It ruled
I think it also revealed just how quickly a bunch of otherwise very hard problems can be to solve with global collective action. The fuckin Ganga was running clear water for the only time in my lifetime because for 2 weeks nobody threw garbage in it. The canals in Venice had fish.
I still carry an N95 mask with me if I’m going anywhere crowded and/or not ventilated (mostly places indoors)
Personally I think there are "legitimate questions" about COVID. Like why Michael Gove and Matt Hancock got away with giving away contracts to their mates. And why the fuck Michelle Mone and Doug Barrowman haven't been prosecuted.
It's even better than that He was chancellor of the exchequer when he rolled out Eat Out To Help Out And they made him PM afterwards.
If we’re discussing covid, back in August 2020 the Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, introduced a programme that subsidised £850m for people to congregate in enclosed spaces and get infected with the disease that killed people, then the state broadcaster depicted him as a superhero
Incidentally, proper ventilation is still not mandated, funded or installed in the vast bulk of these schools (including the new build school that I can see under construction from my living room window) despite the fact it would allow kids to stay in school in the event of another covid pandemic.
Up here all of my family and friends’ schools (who worked in education) were open. They’d be teaching essential workers’ kids + teachers were collecting vulnerable* kids to teach them. They were also doing online lessons. *the ones who would likely have been dead if they’d been allowed to stay home
Yes lockdown was really tough for kids. Lots of those kids are teenagers now so maybe as a thank you our establishments could stop deliberately making even more things worse for them due to a weird systemic hatred of our own youth
Learned this morning that £12m was spent locally to build a “fish motorway” beside the River Trent, the largest in the UK, but there are doubts that fish are even using this and while I find it funny, I’m more bothered that it’s been open since 2024 and I never knew until now
Actual expert vs journalists with opinions.
🧵On @thenewsagents.co.uk yesterday, school closures and the lab leak theory were offered as two examples of legitimate questions that were hard to ask. Both have in fact been asked constantly since 2020. But here's a thread on why I think they were wrong and dangerous on school closures 1/12
