I interviewed for a data science job at NASA, and the guy who would be my boss had done a time use study of his data scientists and found they spent upwards of 85% of their time cleaning data. Nothing I've experienced in the subsequent 10 years has refuted this.

My methods training was okay to good but it definitely left me with the impression that analysis was something like 80% estimating 15% presentation 5% wrangling and it’s actually 96% wrangling

Horrible new bullshit from the sea every time. It’s never ‘oh we found a new pink fish that is so happy’ it’s always stuff like this, the crush-depth screw-headed dongwongler, and it’s got to have big long creepy bits. Sick of the ocean tbh.
