Our policy manager hopped onto the @streets.mn podcast and gave a rundown on what happened at the Minnesota legislature this year and where we're advancing policies for equitable transportation.

At the end of the June 3rd PAC meeting, community members had one minute to provide public comment on the Rethinking I-94 project. One after another, we heard people asking @mndot.mn.gov to pause the project. We know a better future is possible.

Quote from Atticus D. at the June 3rd PAC meeting:

I grew up and still live in the Rondo neighborhood. I want to reiterate this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make this decision.

The damage that the highway has caused this neighborhood is almost unmeasurable, and really looking into at how infrequent these kind of decisions are.

This is our only opportunity, in the lifetime of anyone who was directly affected by the creation of the highway, to really see any justice. And because of that, I really think we should demand a pause on the project.

"We can continue addressing these issues in silos — reacting to crises one year at a time — or we can finally begin building toward a longer-term vision rooted in community stability and repair." Read the op-ed our board president and vice president wrote for the @minnesotareformer.com

The June 3rd Rethinking I-94 Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting went as expected: MnDOT dismissing frustration from the PAC and public. Minnesota elected officials joined together to send a letter to MnDOT and Governor Walz to pause the Rethinking I-94 and Trunk highway 252/I-94 projects.

A letter from Minnesota House Representatives and Minnesota Senate to Governor Walz and MnDOT Commssioner Nancy Daubenberger to pause the Rethinking I-94 and Trunk Highway 252/I-94 projects. An excerpt from the letter and above it reads: "The Rethinking I-94 and Trunk Highway 252/I-94 corrdiors present a once-in-a-generation opportunity to repair historic and ongoing harms."Transparent photo of highway I-94 in the background and an excerpt from the letter: "A pause is necessary now. We cannot expect authentic engagement while communities are navigating fear, economic strain, and political instability. [...] These are decisions that will shape our region for the next 50 to 100 years. Rushing forward under these conditions risks outcomes that are not only flawed, but irreversible."End of the letter with Minnesota legislators names, titles, district they serve, and signatures.
