The ethical implications of this from long established principles are atrocious - from denial of consent and respect for persons and their wishes, to beneficence with a high rate of harm to the potential child and justice. This is a violation of all 3 Belmont principles of ethical medical care.

One of my axolotls will find and eat any food I give her. The other must be hand fed one morsel at a time, because she only eats things that smack her in the face at the precise moment she was pondering a lil snack anyway.

Gilgamesh, a melanoid axolotls, peers out from her feeding bin. She was the runt of her tank and it shows. Enheduanna, a pink leucistic axolotls, peers out, probably mid bite. She’s nicknamed princess pork chop for a reason.

Before the election, I warned that there is no safe haven under authoritarianism. If they can ship Kilmar Abrego Garcia to a foreign prison—accused of no crime, with no trial—they can do it to anyone. Americans of conscience must stand against this now.

I see it. I have lived it. 83 years ago, the U.S. government turned upon a group of its own citizens and residents and sent them to internment camps without due process. I was there among them. American fascism is back. It is here. It is now.

A tweet by Sarah Longwell (@SarahLongwell25
) reads: "He’s threatening media companies who are critical of him. He’s talking about sending Americans to foreign prisons. He’s signing executive orders to investigate former staff members who spoke out against him. Don’t you see what’s happening here?"

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

Wonderful initiative!! Canada is friendly, Toronto science is world class and we don’t have the brainmeltingly toxic politics of America. Come to Canada, do great science with great people - and you don’t have to worry about being deported to an El Salvador concentration camp! The choice is clear.

regarding Columbia University, I just learned about this (anonymous) account of negotiations of the Hitler regime in the 1930s with Frankfurt University -- Germany's most prestigious university at the time:

Lewelyn Dixon immigrated from the Philippines to Hawaii 50 years ago. She worked as a lab technician at the University of Washington. But on a trip returning from the Phillipines, ICE detained her. Her family hasn't been told where she is being held. www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2025/03/22/i...

Immigration crackdown now hitting green card holders

A former Hawaii resident, and longtime green card holder, is among those being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

We need to trust our eyes. Nazi salutes, racist purges, an ambush on the Ukrainian president by a far-right regime. If what we see aligns with what we know and is also in line with an established track record, our default assumption should be that what is happening is actually what it looks like.
