This morning, Europe woke up in grief and disbelief after yesterday’s horrific attack in Krakow. Our flags fly at half-mast in honour of the victims and the brave first responders. They stand for European unity and solidarity. Stronger than hatred. Stronger than extremism.

There is no democracy without press freedom. On International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, and beyond, we stand by all those who speak truth to power.

A minimalist poster with a white background reads: “Journalists are being killed, tortured, harassed, detained, forced into exile. Impunity must end.” The words “Journalists are being” and “Impunity must end” are in bold, with the latter highlighted in red. A small European Union emblem, represented by a circle of stars inside a rectangular outline, appears at the bottom.

The EU’s relations with Canada are entering a new era. At the Montreal Summit, we’ll deepen ties on security and defence, trade, critical raw materials, digital – and bring our people closer together. As global tensions rise, having friends you can count on makes a difference.

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump have lost surprise elections thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

Honoured to attend the commemorations of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution in Budapest. 70 years ago, Hungarians rose up against oppression. They fought for freedom, democracy and justice. The very values at the heart of Europe today. Their courage lives on.

The slithering back to even vaguely positive or optimistic analyses of Trump’s second term after the abominations of January 6th cleared the way for today’s abject betrayal of the Ukrainian people. It’s astonishing how many public figures on both sides of the Atlantic are complicit in the crime.

How can you spot a sustainable product you can trust? Look for the EU Ecolabel! From detergents and textiles to furniture and hotel stays, it helps you find products and services that do a great job while meeting strict environmental criteria.

A white tag displaying the EU Ecolabel logo hangs against a beige, textured background. Above it, blue text reads, “Ever seen this label?” Green handwritten-style arrows point to two options: “yes” and “no”. Below, blue text explains: “You’ve found an environment and health-friendly product!” on the left, and “Keep looking, there are over 120,000 products with the label!” on the right.

With the KIDS Act, we are putting parents back in the driving seat. And the burden of proving safety, on the platforms. Because the question is not whether kids should have access to social media. The question is whether social media platforms should have access to our children.

20 years since Anna Politkovskaya was murdered. A fearless journalist who refused to look away, even when facing threats and attempts on her life. She refused to be silenced, continuing to speak out against corruption and abuse.

The EU has clear interest in stable, prosperous, and sovereign Lebanon. We are backing this with substantial political, economic, and security support. Our new European Union Support Mission to train and advise the Lebanese Armed Forces will be a major upgrade of our security ties.

On International Lesbian Day, we celebrate lesbian women and stand up for a simple principle: Everyone should be free to be themselves and love who they love — free from discrimination, exclusion or violence. 🧡
