Spotted a driver using his phone yesterday. He then pulled forward at the lights to tell me I should be wearing a helmet. Which is why the footage got uploaded to Northumbria police just now.

I don't want to sound too over-excited about this, but I might have come across the most ludicrous and nonsensical anti-cycling newspaper comment piece *ever*. Big claim, I know, but it's quite something. Mini thread - 1/

When considering the parlous state of modern justice, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised by a rise in civilians keen to enforce road regulations. Instead of “policing the streets” (the clue is in the wording), coppers remain tied to their desks, shuffling through piles of pointless “process”.What’s effectively happened over the past couple of years is that sainted but often vengeful cyclists have been given free rein to harass drivers in the name of crime prevention. As a result the streets have become a tinderbox of self-righteous fury with illegal scooters, questionably ridden takeaway-service mopeds and entitled Lycra loons competing for limited space. Instead of dealing with the inevitable fallout from an explosion of largely unregulated modes of transport, motorists are the ones being unfairly targeted by anyone with an axe to grind.It’s especially galling for car owners, who must jump through all sorts of regulatory hoops before they can obtain a licence, to be lectured to by a bunch of entitled two-wheelers who don’t even have to register their vehicles, let alone sit a driving test or take out expensive insurance. Rather than burdening motorists, authorities should introduce proper regulations around cycle and scooter use, making sure all vehicles are registered and insured. And how about punishing cyclists who continually run red lights and ride on pavements?
