@patchedelbows.bsky.social

Lecturer in Library and Information Studies at UCL. PhD student researching social class in the academic library workforce. Co-organiser of Critical Approaches to Libraries Conference (CALC) and member of Fair Library Jobs.

Was just having this conversation with colleagues - surely if we're meant to be a membership organisation and you need photos - involve the membership (or at least photos from conferences that the organiation has put on etc). It is really not that difficult!

I'll tell you what's especially sad; there's lots of great *real* photos of library-land out there that could have been crowd-sourced and used instead. May I respectfully submit LILAC2016 me doing my past faux-coy and camp "oh hello there" to the photographer. Source: www.flickr.com/photos/lilac...

New CILIP website is a mess of AI slop images. Check out the images of senior professionals and try and imagine the prompt that generated them. All backed by walls of fake books that look like the ones sold by the yard to furnish pubs www.cilip.org.uk/learn-develo...

That email coming at the very end of the day was a bit much. I continue to wonder what unifies university administrators that leads to this kind of decision making. It’s gotta be a class thing, right? They like AI because it mimics the output of the PMC?

Along with these beautiful visuals, really pleased to share the now-captioned recording of @bmitra.bsky.social's keynote talk 'Information Access of the Oppressed' from #CALC26. youtu.be/lW8LNlYcdpQ #LibrarySky #Skybrarians #CritLib 📚

Such a wonderful visual summary of my recent keynote 🎤 at #CALC26 📚 conference. Huge thanks to Becky Ullah (Sketchnotes UK) for capturing this so brilliantly, and to @patchedelbows.bsky.social and @michelleab.bsky.social for inviting me to the conference. 🙏🏽 Slides: drive.google.com/file/d/17qM5...

First of our #CALC26 recordings is out! 🥳 In this session @drtlovesbooks.bsky.social makes a strong case for 'Why School Librarians Should be Luddites'. Really interesting and energetic session discussing tech, GenAI and school libraries 📚 #CritLib #LibrarySky #Skybrarians youtu.be/XB6MzhCupwU
