Looks like we’ll get some nuke news here at the #DeterrenceSymposium. DOD apparently will discuss upgrade to nuke strategy that “emphasizes the possible use of shorter-range tactical weapons in case of a regional war with China or Russia.” www.nbcnews.com/politics/nat...

A European capital city, in a country that's an ally of NATO, spent this morning retrieving bodies, saving the wounded, grieving, & despairing at the US in particular for giving Russia the green light to murder when it wishes. Day 1624. Is the fight for good vs evil abandoned?

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Farligt.

Europe’s Spy Ranking Reveals the Strengths and Blind Spots of Nordic-Baltic Intelligence Services

Europe’s spy ranking puts MI6 first and Estonia eighth — but it measures reputation more than efficiency. Britain spends billions, while the Baltic states operate on budgets of tens of millions. The r...

Caudle’s “path to that position is a case study in how the military promotion process at the Pentagon under Mr. Hegseth has deviated from tradition, leaving it susceptible in the view of critics to politicization and favoritism” Deeply disturbing, excellent reporting www.nytimes.com/2026/07/26/u...

Now they’ve done it… Mark Carney and Alex Stubb actually wrote ”middle powers of the world, unite!” 😅 Also, it should give Americans some pause that they basically suggest that Canada’s geographical predicament with its border with the US compares to Finland’s with Russia…

Atvēru komentārus FB pie ziņas par šīs nakts Berlīnes notikumiem. Man tikai viens jautājums - vai tiešām tas šķiet normāli, ka līdzcilvēki par to izrāda prieku, aicina praidos braukt iekšā ar tankiem, aicina uz klaju vardarbību? Tas tagad ir OK? Homofobija un ksenofobija tagad ir patriotisms?

Thanks to Andrew for the periodic reminder. Nice photo, but I think these are the heaters to provide UF6 to an enrichment facility. The storage container is the cylinder that can just be seen inside the first open heater. But Andrew's point still stands. Nobody is going to backpack these out.

To be clear about the actual, physical uranium that would need to be removed from Iran - it's not in tidy, safeish ingots. It's held as a super dangerous gas, probably stored in vessels like these, located way underground. Nobody is just taking it.

Day 1612 of Russia's war may well get more than a footnote, when its history is written. Russia suffered blow after blow during the night with a hat-trick of Wildberries and an MoD factory all hit plus various smaller strikes by Ukraine. Putin's war has found ordinary Russians.

Estonians from company Rannarootsi made an ad with guys with Ukrainian flaged shirts and 'unknown' refinerys burning on the backround grilling their new oninon* sausages. Local vatniks are FURIOS. *onion is an estonian slang for rusnya

Latest post looks at why when war going better for Ukraine defence minister and commander-in-chief clashed, so that both replaced. I assess the potential impact of the changes, noting that rows are not unusual at the top when countries are at war. (£/free trial) samf.substack.com/p/turmoil-at...
