Had a jump scare earlier when I half-turned on the upstairs landing to see what looked like a demon ascending the stairs in the dark* *before realising it was this pillock coming to look for me with his sticky-up ears and weird almost bipedal upright walking thing

Bumble the demonic but actually daft and lovely dog

Had the ol’ internal pedant grumbling a few times (e.g. a Catholic priest not knowing the difference between a cross and a crucifix) but The Borderlands was thoroughly enjoyable and harrowing, with excellent chemistry between the two chief characters and some slow burn scares

Disturbed on the roof of a rounded church tower with his back turned unnervingly from camera

Almost 50 people have added DEATH IN ITS MANY FORMS on Goodreads! It's moments like these that really help bolster a self-publishing author doing it all solo. It feels like, despite everything going on and all the other books coming out, somehow readers still heard me and took a sec to show support🥹

A screenshot of Goodreads stats showing 49 people have added Death in Its Many Forms to their shelves.

Don’t know about writer’s block but I’m experiencing - not for the first time - this thing where I have to get two stories I’m not that invested in out of the way before starting on the two or three I really *do* want to write. What mental illness is this?

OH went to a Tina Turner tribute show last night. Tina dragged a lad out of the audience and made him sit in a chair while she, ahem, performed Private Dancer ‘Did he get to see her Proud Mary,’ says I, a great wag* *Her Nutbush City Limits might have been better 🫠

Holy moly, thought I was in for some straight-up Amicus fun but Madhouse (Jim Clark, 1974) is so much more than just that. Meta af, genuinely horrific in places and a highly effective whodunnit. Love Vincent Price in everything but here he’s at his very best, with Cush as a tremendous foil. So good

Vincent Price as Paul Toombes as Dr Death, looking troubled as he smokes a cigarette between takesVincent Price is horrified to find a murder victim Linda Hayden gets it in the neck The remarkably beautiful Julie Crosthwaite as the tragic Ellen

In conversation with my 10yr old nibling yesterday evening, she was utterly dismissive of LLM stuff. Why, she asked, would she want it when she can write her own stories and draw her own pictures? Joyous to hear.

‘Mon dieu. ‘Astings, Miss Limon: what is the meaning of this’ ‘Terribly sorry, Poirot old boy, Miss Lemon was saying it’d been an awfully long time since she’d had a good seeing to, so I thought “Dash it all, now’s as good a time as any”’
