Some of y'all are gonna think I've gone completely nuts, but I'm gonna talk about rounded corners and why circles suck. Most devs take it for granted that rounded corners are circles. Spoiler: They don't have to be! There is a much more aesthetically pleasing and cheaper alternative. 🧵👇 #gamedev

So Unity recently decided that the tiny startup I dayjob for needed to upgrade to Industry at 5k/year/seat. We had no chance to contest it because they would have killed our only product. They even threatened people we worked with in the past with the same. It's not just us. DO NOT USE UNITY!

imo if you want to actually finish a game you should use a pre-built engine like godot. making assets and implementing all the specific stuff takes long enough as it is, this is coming from someone who wrote multiple engines from scratch before finally agreeing to use godot instead

One day I plan out the next two months of stuff on my game, trying to estimate it conservatively. Then I check off half the list in a couple of days. Something's wrong with my brain lol #gamedev

I'm reaching the part of the #gamedev cycle where I can start infusing my game with some designs and make it come alive. I'm excited. I want to start showing the game more, but I don't want to show off a bunch of placeholder assets! 🙄 The systems are fun though:

rebuilding core systems of my game have felt like going back to square one, but im digging myself out ⚠️ i even thought my project had corrupted but it magically worked after updating to Godot 4.4 keep moving one small brick at a time and don't look back 👀 #indiedev
