After my parents were visiting set for the first time, I asked my dad what he thought. He said “I didnt realize, it’s like you’re building a house, and once an hour good looking people run in and put on a play for five minutes. Then they leave and you go back to construction.”

People think "Hollywood" is rich and famous. The reality? Film and TV is a national industry. It's a blue collar industry. And it is an industry free fall. My latest for @newrepublic.com on how the Paramount merger would crush blue collar workers who can not afford it newrepublic.com/article/2136...

iPhone doesn’t do justice to the rust-coloured haze over Toronto, or the stench. I was fine in an N95. Birds were having a bona fide party in an utterly deserted Home Smith Park. Thinking about my impassioned speech in elementary school arguing for the swift implementation of the Kyoto accords.

I've posted recently about some of these individually, but here's my latest list of new items of scholarship about popular romance novels. Lots of dissertations/theses and the articles from the new issue of JPRS which weren't online first:

I took this post down ages ago for reasons I won’t get into, but Gwen deserves better than that. Gwendolyn Johnson-Acsadi aka Gwynne Forster was an extraordinary woman who happened to also be a beloved romance author. romancehistory.com/2021/03/04/g...

(Author’s note- this post had been sitting in drafts for far too long, for reasons. But Gwen’s story deserves better than that.) There are a countless number of romance authors who I wish I’d…

I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure. Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

Remember, this is how they respond to peaceful protests. Remember that when they indict our people. They do this to us and call us violent. They did this to a crowd without warning, without a dispersal order even. This video didn't even capture the flash bangs they deployed first.

After charging 15 people with "Antifa" crimes for participating in rapid response networks, federal agents are pepper-spraying people outside the Federal Courthouse in the Twin Cities right now. They want to establish an autocracy. Everyone's freedom is at stake.

Outside of the St Paul courthouse, protesters are fighting with agents. The feds are now charging 15 people with impeding immigration enforcement in Minneapolis- under the guise of "antifa". As an aside- in LA they have failed to obtain guilty verdicts in most cases brought against protesters.

I would love* to hear the reasoning why anyone thinks paying $91 for a thing you don't actually own, AND that expires after being used 26 times, is fair and reasonable. If this was YOUR money, would you pay that? *no I wouldn't. Because there is no reasoning.

seeing the posts about visitors discovering that you can walk around most of our cities and just be yourself in a multicultural setting, discovering tailgating, starting impromptu block parties, my muslim mayor, etc. etc. it's corny to say it but that's our secret sauce. and it means something
