The Spanish government of Pedro Sanchez is the biggest threat to the European mainstream: a left-wing government that implements left-wing policies that work, including on immigration. They show that “the narrative” is false and humane immigration is possible. This is why they all jump on Cueta.

I guess I am comfortable saying that in cases where people you formerly respected, or presumed you did, are now actively choosing to sunset their own minds & surrender them to machines invented by incels and billionaires, then yes there should be a stigma for that. This is what society is for
“There is also a moral and political judgment that is coming along with AI usage…Especially in creative industries where the stigma is the strongest.”
I wrote about being at the FIFA World Cup final and the entire sordid scene. I spoke to a few people who bought five-figure tickets. I tried to make sense of the senseless. @defector.com (This is a gift link, but you should subscribe to Defector, the rare outlet that would commission this.)

[Looks around literally fascist society]: ‘The fundamental equity issue in higher education is not enough fascists teaching at universities. (I am not a fascist.)’ K.
With all due respect, I'm not sure someone who only spent a few years as an assistant professor of environmental studies at Bates College before leaving academia to work for the Contrarian Hot Takes Industry *really* has his finger on the pulse of what's currently going on in the Humanities.
All can be true: 1. Universities have been targeted by a decades-long bad faith campaign 2. Status quo is vastly more normal than craziest stuff on Fox/social media, esp. outside elite schools 3. Parts of academia are in rough shape Despite 1 & 2, we can and should address 3.
Total woke cultural victory. We're bringing pronouns back. It is now illegal to be a white male. We're doing May Day parades just for HR ladies.
📢 Once more for the people in the back: - Most [more than 95%] of archives have not been digitized. - Most of humanity's knowledge and memory is *not* reachable by LLMs. - Believing that AI can provid you with comprehensive, definitive, "intelligent" results is folly.
Giving myself a headache in the archives
Werner Herzog and his crew did not drag a 320-ton steamship up a Peruvian mountainside so you could tell me AI is “inevitable.”
Tippi Hedren didn't survive live birds being thrown at her head only to befriend a raven named Buddy so you could tell me that AI is "inevitable."
Happy Pride to this Caravaggio self-portrait that made one man so gay he had to go to the hospital
World Cup Analysis: Belgium is perfecting the ennui of Total Stultify Football with such control they hope to elevate ties to an artform "as exciting as waiting for a bus in a city with poor public transportation", to reflect the socio-economic status of the average human in the age of billionaires.
Finding various lefty people in the humanities kinda annoying but not thinking it is worth burning down every free institution in the west to prevent such people emerging nor allying with the fascists in the process of doing as much? This is a superpower.
A basic fact, but worth affirming: The existence of the scholars who wrote this report invalidates the conclusion of the report.
wow, just…wow This reminds me of that scene in The Big Short when Steve Eisman asks, “Why are they confessing?” and Vinny Daniel says, “They’re not. They’re bragging.”
You can have viewpoint diversity. Or you can have peer review. But you cannot have both. And without peer review, you cannot have credible knowledge at all. shorturl.at/2Ji1X
this is the biggest problem with "viewpoint diversity" con artists: their ideas aren't in fact new. they're warmed over old stuff that's been conclusively disproven.
Since life is keeping me busy I don't have time to do much writing and what not now, so just to keep my blog active I fired off a quick post about the latest report on the humanities. sootyempiric.blogspot.com/2026/06/the-...

One of the more misogynistic takes currently trending in the AI policy space is "women use less AI than men because they have less tech literacy" Ok but have you considered that women use less AI than men because we have more tech literacy?
It's a huge mistake to "adjust to" or "adapt" to generative AI. There's rarely been a more clearcut situation to reject vehemently for so many reasons. One reason beyond those that apply now is the future capacity for proactive manipulation and distortion. We need less outside interference not more.
Yeah, I don't think we need to dismiss Hemmingway as “macho face of 20th Century prose” any more. Masculinity has become so cartoonish in the 2020s that just having read a book, much less writing them, means you're basically an honorary woman.

On the "don't know how anything works" scale, believing that U.S. bases in Germany are more of a favor to the Germans than a method of American power projection isn't at the very top, but it's up there.

I ended up reading some of his blog posts. He seems to argue that one reason why he must banish "wokism" is because left-wingers are intelligent, so they need to be "liberated" from "falsehood". Doesn't seem to consider that perhaps the intelligence might be linked to the views...
Faculty and Students at Ghent University are objecting to the university’s recent hiring of a philosopher owing to his "race science" writings. Other scholars are circulating a defense of the philosopher's academic freedom.
