All I want is a city where it’s safe to choose how I move and instead I get trucks crashing into electric poles on the street where I have to walk my dog and friends getting doored in bike lanes while riding with their kid

Charlie Weingartner@charlieweingartner.bsky.social · 2d agoOf these individuals, 3 were pedestrians, 2 motorcyclists, and 3 were in vehicles when they died last month. Additionally, 24 pedestrians, and 9 cyclists suffered non-fatal crashes with vehicles in July 2026.
One year ago I put a bench up on KVB, which I thought would be a funny little protest but has been a surprisingly life changing event. Grateful for the best group of people who work hard on it and all the excellent people I've met through the bench parties

This density of population, lower income, and lack of transportation options is also what makes South Nashville the most dangerous place to be a cyclist or pedestrian. In the last ten years, the vast majority of cyclist deaths have been in this circle, and ped deaths are depressingly common.
A little desner/essentially the same - South Nashville. Notice the huge discrepancy in bus service: hundreds of stops in West Nashville, 51 in South. Also consider how many more parks, greenways, and bike lanes service in Edgehill, Hillsboro, West End and 12 South.

The writer, Paul Schimek, is a longtime devotee of John Forester and an adherent of "savvy cycling" or "bicycle driving," other terms for vehicular cycling. As the first bicycle program manager for the City of Boston, he is a big reason the city was behind on installing protected lanes for so long.

But Louisa is dead because of unsafe infrastructure and because of dangerous blind spots on trucks. Why does this piece not even mention steps the trucking industry could take?
