feeling out what the optimal mix is to still feel like a "software engineer" in 2027 half my projects hover at 3 with +1/-1 dips and half are just turbospeed 6+ and I wish I had a 0. I hope to have enough luxury of time someday to get back to having a 0.

usually between 2-3 but currently remaking a systems PL compiler from scratch that i wrote at 0, and there i'm 5-7, just hacking it, trying to figure out if this is a viable approach. source: no idea

An infographic titled "The 7 Levels of Vibe-Coding" featuring colorful horizontal rows numbered 0 through 7, each containing a title, short description, and icon:

Level 0: Artisanal code purist - "You can't use AI anywhere in your process. You chose to do programming on hardcore difficulty, even though it was the norm a few years ago." (Icon: A flexing arm lifting a dumbbell)

Level 1: Autocomplete enthusiast - "You use tab autocomplete, and might ask ChatGPT for occasional code snippets. You are stuck in 2024, but you like it in here." (Icon: Keyboard tab key)

Level 2: Using the assistant as an actual assistant - "You occasionally use agentic tools to review your code, hunt bugs, get advice, polish specific parts, and summarize information. You still understand every part of it, congrats." (Icon: A magnifying glass inspecting a document with a bug)

Level 3: Vibing in moderation - "The agent catches up to your level. You use it to generate large portions of code, but still review the majority of it, and you might type parts of the code yourself. However, you don't bother reviewing the parts that aren't load-bearing." (Icon: An emoji wearing purple headphones)

Level 4: Usage limits start hitting hard - "The beginning of the end. You only care about the core concepts; the execution is an afterthought. You barely write code by hand anymore, and you pretend to review random parts so you don't feel bad about yourself. You still want to understand what you're doing, and you genuinely feel like you do, even if you don't." (Icon: A code terminal displaying "LGTM ✓")

Level 5: "Do my job, make no mistakes" - "That's it, you give up. The architecture looks good to you as long as the agent says it does. You only have a nebulous overall idea of what's happening and which processes are running. You forgot what it's like to write code by hand." (Icon: A glowing brain inside a glass jar)

Level 6: CS degree down the drain - "You don't even wonder what's happen…

Back in town to get a tire fixed in The rural Texas Walmart and the checkout lady who was clearly older than the mason dixon line had a progress pride pin with a Walmart logo on it. They movin quick

This is why I keep saying that people need to follow the Oversight Democrats and Judiciary Democrats accounts and get their information about what Democrats are and aren't doing from the source. Garcia and Raskin are going hard and I don't think it's in defiance of Jeffries.

Seeing preemptive dooming about how the Dems won’t do anything from people so battered they can’t accept hope.

One or two people I know IRL have been publicly poo-pooing midterm enthusiasm on the terms that "liberals are just going to return to brunch," and I think it crystalized something for me, which is that there is a tendency within some of our movements to be deeply, venomously suspicious of joy

Let’s do it all! Impeachment after impeachment. Start with the juiciest target- Hegseth- and build momentum. Let Trump sweat in the corner. We’ll get ‘em all. There’s a reason you start with your easiest task or your smallest debt- success begets success!

this entire back-and-forth ignores the happy path of "work everyone up for a couple of months impeaching everyone *around* Trump, starting with Hegseth, whom we're going to be able to impeach before it's even January", once people see how FUN impeachment is they'll want to do it more B)

americans love true crime! americans love watching people get publically humiliated! part of trump’s entire magic is “i will humiliate people in entertaining fashion on tv” it depends on how you do it but prosecution is not only necessary to save the country, it’s possibly a good strategy

This is not what I'm saying. It's very easy for people to misrepresent as what I'm saying, but it's not. People aren't asking for specific policy deliverables. They're asking for their lives to feel materially better. They blame Trump for making it worse, as they blamed Biden. They'll blame us too.

To the idea that this wave election was about the public looking for specific policy deliverables, I think that's just a fundamental misunderstanding of how election swings work.

OK, seriously people, the Democratic leadership that just presided over a historic victory for the party is almost certainly *not* getting replaced by their own caucuses, regardless of how involved they were or weren’t. Take the W and stop giving yourself something new to be mad about.

Fetterman sucks as much as he does because he doesn’t have to be this way in a purple state; those guys do. You do not know better than Adam Hamilton what plays for a Democrat to get elected senator in Kansas because he’s the only fucking person alive to ever do it
