Today, I’m entering the race for Ontario Liberal Leader because I believe Ontario can still win. But not if we keep ignoring our big problems.

I guess it's a hot take but I'll defend the 407. If it were public, political pressure would have removed the tolls, socialized the costs and it would be crowded enough that there would be pressure to expand it. You can argue about how much they sold it for, but it was the right idea.

My hot take is that this was one of the best decisions ever made by an Ontario government in recent memory. If it wasn't sold off, Doug Ford would have just removed tolls from it, continuing to subsidize driving and sprawl.

I am particularly annoyed by Toronto's response on minimum lot size. They say they don't want minimum lot size reform because it could limit the construction of multiplexes. This totally ignores that multiplexes have been far more likely to be built in areas that don't have *any* minimum lot size.

Of the planning departments who replied to Ontario's ERO on reforming minimum lot size, the only one I saw in favour was Ottawa to their eternal credit and to the eternal embarrassment of every other municipal planning department.

The streetcars are going so slow in part because of antiquated technology Toronto still uses. Modern switch control would fix many intersection slow downs. Dual blade switches would bring the network in line with the light rail lines and even some streetcar yards.

It must feel great to be a bus driver and to get to righteously and loudly honk at people blocking the bus stop.
