A week ago I had surgery to remove a gallbladder. (Yes, it was my gallbladder, don’t worry.) I had [redacted] at the same time so I’m off work for another week yet. Anyway, the point is that I haven’t been able to cough or blow my nose or listen to a Conan O’Brien podcast for a week.

My guidance for this is: At the very least, turn on row compression. If you’re storing a lot of Latin alphabet strings in NVARCHAR columns, turn on page compression. In most regular usage you will see a storage and performance benefit overall. Don’t compress binary, and test, test, test.
