At the risk of ruining my mentions, I want to remind my centrist friends that “vote blue no matter who” also applies when Dems nominate a leftist. We need to be single focused on winning back the Senate. We cannot do that without Michigan.

Sen. Bernie Moreno (paraphrased): On second thought, now that it's clear this is making me personally look awful, I say domestic abuse, lying about it, and failing basic standards of character like that has no place in the Republican Party, except at the top, and some other places too. Thank you.

senator bernie moreno finally makes a statement about the allegations of abuse by rep. max miller against his daughter and granddaughter after miller went live on X this morning to deny everything.

A certain kind of 'progressive' leftist now just goes full '[n-word] [n-word] [n-word]' in their campaigning but for Jews and they need to be driven out of the party. We all saw what happened to Republicans when they let ppl like this hang around long enough.

I do have to ask, though: Given that local television is now just owned by national conglomerates with right-wing agendas, local papers have been stripped for parts, and everyone's increasingly getting their news from social media feeds (if at all), how much this matters?

Autopsies of Black Lives Matter and George Floyd protests often conclude that movements produced tough-on-crime backlash. My new study in Work and Occupations finds a different kind of movement outcome: BLM changed how local reporters cover cops and jails. 🧵 journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Beyond Police Stenography: How Disembedding Enables Critical Crime News Work

Prior research finds that crime journalists reproduced criminal justice organization standpoints through close working relationships with law enforcement. How do crime reporters relate to police sources today? Drawing on interviews with 58 journalists across 40 local newsrooms in 24 U.S. states, I find that disembedding from law enforcement organizations restructures many reporters’ source relationships, creating conditions under which some journalists enact a distinct professional identity through occupational activism. I argue that the critical crime journalist role is distinguished by a commitment to alternative sourcing practices, structural framing, and reinterpreted objectivity. Informants connect critical orientations to repeated exposure to official dishonesty and the influence of Black-led social movements against police violence. Critical crime journalists amplify civilian and prisoner voices and engage in contextual reporting, treating coverage as a vehicle to shift how readers understand criminalized people and the criminal justice system more broadly. These findings extend scholarship on occupational activism into crime journalism and identify pathways into this form of empirical and expressive occupational activism.

Congrats on getting Hamas to say “okay fine, we’ll disarm after Israel totally withdraws” and Israel to say “okay fine, we’ll withdraw after Hamas totally disarms.” No one’s accomplished that before, better make it the top headline.

Was the World Cup crowd booing Trump? Tough to tell with how the music is drowning everything out and they're barely allowing any audio from the stadium bleed through.

Prime example of the media straight up lying in order to protect and sanitize Trump. Instead of just stating the facts- that Trump specifically pressured the Romanian government to release the sex trafficking Tate brothers, they offer up this utterly incoherent narrative. apnews.com/article/tate...

Associated Press sanitized story:

"British prosecutors announced Saturday that they were seeking the brothers’ extradition on charges alleging they raped and trafficked women between 2010 and 2017.

The dual U.S. and British citizens moved to Romania in 2016. They were arrested there in 2022, accused of participating in schemes to lure women for sexual exploitation. They denied those allegations and the Romanian case hasn’t gone forward because of legal and procedural problems.

Last year, they were allowed to leave Romania and flew to Florida on a private jet."

Thw reason that American democracy is in the absolute shit state that it's in is because media organizations, both large and small, will swallow whatever deranged shit that the right spews and present a digested, same washed version to the masses.

Social media page for small newspaper "The Muskegon Chronicle," based out Michigan, and part of the state MLive Media Group, presenting Trump's claims about the city.

I don't think it's self-inflicted for the simple reason that the surge in Canadian nationalism was directly triggered by the head of state of our largest ally threatening to annex us and inflicting brutal economic damage, only for many Americans to openly regard the whole thing as a joke.

This is footage of ICE handcuffing a 26 year old father after murdering him in broad daylight. We cannot look away. Abolish ICE. Abolish qualified immunity. Hold these murderous thugs accountable.

ICE murders someone, gets caught joking about it, nothing happens to anyone involved. I worry that the sheer grim repetition is having the desired numbing effect on the media and politicians.

As with many elected officials I protected for nearly 2 decades as an officer, my interactions with him were limited, I do remember when he and I were alone in a elevator and he pretended he didn’t know who I was after my Jan 6 testimony. I will never forget his betrayal to me and my colleagues.
