“New puritans” was precisely the framing MAGA types used — and needed — to justify their victimhood complex and drive the backlash they’re now carrying out. Anne could have written a piece at the time, when it mattered, about how this narrative was false. Instead she amplified and legitimized it.

I have read Anne’s books and generally respect her work but it’s a little hard to take pieces like this seriously when she was one of the ones amplifying the myth of right-wing censorship.
