If these allegations are true, no member of Congress should be above accountability. Call your Representative and House leadership. Demand an ethics investigation and insist that allegations of domestic violence be taken seriously, no matter the party.

According to newly released court documents, Ohio Republican Rep. Max Miller poured boiling hot water on his wife, put a gun to her head, and may have broken his two year old daughter's collarbone. The child reportedly told her mom, "Daddy's house is scary." Speaker Mike Johnson is defending him and refusing to pressure him to step down.

stuff like this is why one important avenue for court reform is just nixing the shadow docket altogether and forcing these people to explain themselves to the public when they issue orders. also, making their records property of the united states and subject to publication when they leave the bench.

Amy Coney Barrett just told Congress that it would be inappropriate to explain the reasoning behind the Court’s unreasoned shadow docket orders. As if unreasoned judicial orders are a thing. They are not. The reasoning is the whole point.

roberts et al have a mental model of racism as being defined entirely by the most atavistic mania of the jim crow south. if it isn’t that, if it wears suits and ties and speaks the language of national security and executive authority, then it not only doesn’t count, *it’s not racism*

Wrote about the Roberts Court’s highly selective aversion to identifying racism, echoing the logic of the infamous Korematsu decision, which the Roberts Court has both condemned and imitated. Call it Neo-Korematsu doctrine. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

In Trump v. Hawaii, Roberts wrote that “the forcible relocation of U. S. citizens to concentration camps, solely and explicitly on the basis of race, is objectively unlawful and outside the scope of Presidential authority.” But the author of the Korematsu opinion, having exchanged his white robe for a dark one, would have agreed. After all, Hugo Black wrote that “pressing public necessity”—not “racial antagonism”—motivated the Japanese-internment policy. Black upheld Fred Korematsu’s conviction because he argued that the presence of a national-security motive meant the racism against Japanese Americans didn’t count. And that is exactly the logic the Roberts Court has followed in so many cases. This reasoning—Black’s reasoning—has been reiterated again and again by Roberts and his right-wing colleagues to sanction discrimination against the vulnerable populations targeted by the Republican Party. The Korematsu decision may be overturned by the “court of history.” But its legacy lives on in the Roberts Court.

I really think people don’t appreciate how much gas-fired generation is at risk from pure economics in the next few years. Probably a third to a half of the world’s LNG trade is feeding power stations which are already, or on the brink of, being permanently undercut by solar+batteries.

Important also to translate this into costs of gas power in LNG-dependent markets. At $10/mmbtu, pretty much the minimum that LNG can be had for in the best times, a high-utilization plant will need $100/MWh electricity to cover its costs. That’s about 25% above solar with a 4hr battery nowadays.
