Perhaps I need to tap the sign again. Companies cannot ethically accept unpaid volunteer labor at scale, even when the volunteers are offering to do something that the company would really like to be done and which would be popular with its customers.
Itch.io should take a stance and side with indies; ban or hide all slop. Hard to enforce for sure, but it's a strong message. I've personally had to disable all bot/agent access to my site, they were eating up my bandwidth, no donations, almost taking down my site for everyone. Why accept this?
The number of game pages being created per-day has doubled in the past 2 months
any "oh no we're being overrun by AI shit :(" gets no sympathy from me if they cannot clear the basic bar of "did you at least ban the most obvious people who are willing to outright disclose it". because invariably that answer is no. there's just no way to know for sure (please ignore the tags)
Say what you will about modern Nintendo. But Furukawa told investors that if they want Nintendo to invest in AI, you can sell your shares now.
Spread this around. Name and shame anyone who is engaging with this company or its products. Unfollow and unsubscribe even if it hurts. Refund your tickets for any convention that lets them speak. Do not let fascism into your retro gaming hobby, how we respond to this will be a defining moment.
please share this & make sure it’s the only attention modretro & gamestop get for the holidays.

I'm genuinely not sure why people are freaking out over this. * this only affects servers with >1000 members who have opted into discoverability * server admins can turn it off per channel or serverwide * users can turn it off for themselves
Discord is like 'please cancel Nitro en masse again we love losing subscriptions'.
We, internationally, need to do exactly what the Brazilians did and lead by example with: 1) Block all far right figures/accounts 2) Never share a far right account even to dunk on them 3) Never reply to a far right account even to dunk on them Completely cut their algorithmic advantage
the new right-wing rage about Obama "slandering" the Cheesecake Factory is just the Cracker Barrel controversy warmed over again in the microwave just like a lot of fast casual food :)
GenAI security vuln discovery is everyone being forced to contend with the gish gallop of security, which has always been true, but constrained by actually having to engage in human effort. The tool can't actually help address problems at the scale it can help someone find them. Dark times.
seriously, it's exhausting and its careless. doing bad shit because you can is literally how they put Mitnick in jail.
sure is interesting how it seems like a bunch of nominally anti-AI people suddenly lose all their objections when they get a whiff of being able to pirate current-gen console games

I've come to the conclusion it's fine to just be blanket anti-AI right now. We can have the nuanced discussions about local models, limited usage, etc. later. It's simply not possible to have those discussions right now. The current emergency is AI as fascist movement. We need to fight that.
The Umamusume fandom today. (In the end, I don't care if it was the uma concert that made you realize things are getting shitty or not, that fact is you realized. Now go study the why behind the decisions of our country.)
people are being so uncharitable about the umamusume concert thing, yeah you might find it funny to go "they got radicalised by the horse game LOL" but in the wider context, it is fundamentally "they got radicalised by trump's fuckery of the immigration system preventing artists from legal entry"
can't take "LLMs are people" discourse seriously when we haven't even convinced everyone that all people are people.
PSA: The latest NVIDIA App update adds a Default-ON option that allows AI Agents to control the app... Might want to turn it off.. Even aside from being lame AI features, that feels like making security even worse by defaulting it ON.
Please make sure you spread the stories debunking this as far and wide as you did the stories claiming it was true. No one is immune to propaganda, viral apocrypha, none of it. But you *can* say, "Hey y'all, I got *got* and that wasn't true." Be about it for information, not just engagement. 💖
NEW: I wrote about why so many people wanted to believe that Ukrainian airstrikes on a Russian data center reduced troll and bot activity online, even though it's almost certainly not true. Featuring @noupside.bsky.social: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

youtu.be/8fvTxv46ano I've always said this is the logical endpoint of fascists' ideal translation but I think that's giving too much credit to localization discourse

I didnt expect this post to blow up so ill just put this note explaining the wordplay in the image
this really is just the logical endpoint of the like decade plus of bad faith localization discourse where people would just pretend you can take idioms and wordplay from other languages and swap it to english wholesale
taking this image from VampyricMaid on twitter but idk how you can hang your hat on this and say its good quality
The ending sequence from Lufia 2. From the moment you get past the monsters to the credits there isn't anything better.
What's the most EMOTIONAL moment you've ever experienced in a video game?
