I am an Associate Professor of English and Director of College Composition at the University of Maine New books: https://upcolorado.com/utah-state-university-press/item/6620-burnin-daylight https://wac.colostate.edu/books/perspectives/improvisations/

I'm looking forward to working with folks to build a better organization. This is a time to be visionary. At a bare minimum, I'd like: *No NDAs for board members *FULL financial transparency once a year sent to all members *Public comment periods before any major organizational change

I have tremendous respect for & trust in the named Transition chair, but at this point I am done with NCTE entirely. They burned us too much. I’m near tenure and in a place where I don’t need a national org in the near future so I’d rather spend the time to build something new and get it right.

@ncte.org with another awful email. If college writing teachers really mattered to the org, you’d have talked to the membership about this decision. And then you would have worked with our elected leaders, rather than a hand-picked transition team.

“For fear of retribution.” From a professional org. Unbelievable. @ncte.org, burning through over a century of goodwill can’t be as easy as you’re making it look. This must be what it felt like watching Ruth hit 50 homers when the second place guy hit 4. Otherworldly, in a horrible way.

"All of the [financial] suggestions were dismissed by NCTE staff, according to a source familiar with CCCC governance who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retribution."

Hey folks: even if you aren't involved, consider signing this petition in solidarity with your fellow academics? Interdisciplinary translation: this is like if they canceled APSA for political scientists, AMS for musicologists, AHA for historians, MLA for lit studies, etc. etc.

Important petition re CCCC "If you are currently a CCCC member, we ask that you commit to cancelling your NCTE membership should these changes be made." Petition: "Join us in calling on the NCTE to halt any actions leading to the dissolution of the CCCC member group." www.change.org/p/halt-disso...

NCTE has just summarily killed a 77-year-old organization that has shaped how writing is understood, taught, and learned, in higher education in particular. No member involvement. No transparency. No process to speak of. With friends and fellow educators like these, I guess who needs enemies.

I’m only 12 pages in but very excited to learn from Laura Wilder’s”Tracing the Impact of First-Year Writing.” An excellent lit review to start the book on longitudinal research of FYW. Wilder has unique research situation of studying students who did and did not take FYW #teamrhetoric
