I believe in free speech which is why I find it crazy that people don’t just quietly acknowledge I say something or loudly cheer me on. Instead they…use speech? To criticize me? Total hypocrisy. How dare people use their words to express their opinion in a way that bruises my sensitive ego

Aaron Rodgers spoke out about Dr. Anthony Fauci. Sophie Cunningham spoke out about transgender athletes. Caitlin Clark chose not to weigh in. Three different approaches, one common result: criticism. Steve Buckley on how athletes can't win on social media: nyti.ms/3Sa9A7D

It’s a good sign that NCTE released another statement so soon after the first one about CCCC. No matter what happens, it’s clear they realize they are in deeper shit than they initially realized and are trying some damage control. For the petty among us, there is some enjoyment there

shorter NCTE message: we want to get rid of all the infrastructure that costs money and carries any political risk, BUT we will take your membership money. For what? Isn't it exciting that we don't know?!!!

Literacy crisis discourse usually centers around critique of: grammar, clarity, and/or critical thinking. Now, literacy crises are often about more than this, but in terms of what people claim it’s about, I think these three things cover it. AI has narrowed these concerns (esp 1st 2) #teamrhetoric

Why did NCTE and CCCC officers have to sign NDAs? Do we have trade secrets about semicolons? I don’t understand. What a rotten organization NCTE is…we are educators and not defense contractors or Coca-Cola. Ridiculous. No NDAs for our new org #teamrhetoric

“Racism is good and policy should be designed to reflect that principle,” couched in euphemism, is an acceptable opinion in the anglosphere leadership class but “racism is bad and policy should be designed to reflect that principle” is wokeness gone amok and unacceptable bsky.app/profile/okwo...

The editor in chief of The Economist referring here to the AfD’s leader as a “perfectly thoughtful person“ instead of what she truly is - a driver and enabler of German fascism - is a huge part of the problem.

I will never choose to affiliate with @ncte.org, given the absolutely disgraceful way they have chosen to dissolve CCCC, a 70+ year organization central to the discipline of writing and literacy studies. I am so disappointed in the NCTE leadership. May they come to view their actions with horror.

NCTE has just summarily killed a 77-year-old organization that has shaped how writing is understood, taught, and learned, in higher education in particular. No member involvement. No transparency. No process to speak of. With friends and fellow educators like these, I guess who needs enemies.

Here it is, folks. @ncte.org Executive Committee votes to "de-charter its special topics conference CCCC," i.e., to shitcan the Cs. mailchi.mp/ncte/ncte-up...

If there’s no 2027 CCCC I’d be happy to watch recordings of 5-7 presentations and write feedback for each one. Especially for grad students. I usually go to like 7ish sessions (maybe more?) so would be similar kind of deal #teamrhetoric

if they cancel the 2027 conference after years of conferences telling us they can't cancel in response to hostile legislation because they can't get the deposit back I'm going to scream
