Trans history post: Hijron ka khanqah (Hijra/transfeminine retreat) is a compelling reminder that our trans & queer histories do not require imprimatur from dominant global north-biased queerness. We are alive. This resting place for Hijra sisters in Delhi dates from 1452-1526 (Lodi dynasty). 1/2
It is still in operation — the guardians being the Hijra sisters — and allows a retreat from hetero/cis chokehold of humanity. Such an honour to spend time with fellow queer academic @rkdasgupta.bsky.social here, yesterday. It was our pilgrimage to a future connected to our trans & queer pasts. 2/2
It is Trans pride in London today which I’m sadly missing as I am in 🇮🇳 where I’ve just seen what can be achieved when people stand together. I send hope love & solidarity to those marching in London. Let’s hope the EHRC guidelines get consigned to the dustbin of history where it belongs. All power🏳️⚧️
