Dolly Parton rose from poverty to stardom. She gave $500 to every student in her hometown who finished high school; she built hospitals & bald eagle preserves; her Imagination Library has gifted 300 million books to children. Roger Ebert met her and came away thinking she was a literal angel. RIP.

my wife has a friend who sent Dolly Parton a painting she made & a letter explaining how much Dolly's music meant to her while she was transitioning. Dolly responded to it personally & paid for her top surgery. Sounds like an urban legend but it's real. I think we're going to more stories like this.

Imagination Libraries get little kids — without means testing — a library of books of their very own, one every month from birth until age 5. Local communities work to raise the funds in partnership with DPIL, so I encourage you to find your local one, or help Houston get even more coverage.
