I just twigged the moral. Previously I thought it was still talking about baseball, and that the "Main" was the surrounding land, field, or village green or whatever. Instead it's saying scoring in baseball is a metaphor of the pursuits of the British Empire - "the Main" being, duh, the high seas.

Willie Wilson won the most precincts, but only came in 4th. Amara Enyia got more votes than Joyce and Chico but only won 8 precincts.
