Dramatic skies over Killiney beach, Co. Dublin yesterday morning and hundreds of small young fish, possibly mackerel, left stranded on the beach. We tried to throw many that were still alive back into the sea.

A beautiful sunny morning along the River Dodder in Dublin today but the herons were just interested in chasing each other.

Early river stroll. Clouds tinged with gold as the sun rises. A light mist lingering over the trees. That family of ducks have decided to walk today. Overhead a heron flaps slowly downstream. Two swans guard their cygnet by the far bank. This will be my last river stroll for a few weeks.
Late river stroll. The evening of what has been a beautiful day. The lowering sun sinks into thin hazy clouds along the horizon, just adding a touch of colour at day’s end.
Early stroll. The moon, outshining the stars. A tree’s shadow on the cemetery fence. Two orange balls on a lawn. A cyclist almost rides into me, shouts ‘Sorry pal!’ A sign says THIS ROAD WILL BE CLOSED; it doesn’t say when.
Early river stroll. Colder, a clear sky, but the first mists of autumn shroud the valley. Dew soaked grass, moisture drips from the trees and glistens on spiders webs. When the sun rose above the mist it became an achingly beautiful morning. Everything glowed and glittered as light poured through.
Early stroll. The evolving moon. ROAD CLOSED sign as metal metaphor. A jacket hung on a fence. A man stands beside a white van, arms folded. That cat, splashed by streetlight.
Absolutely over the moon and deeply honoured to see Waterstones select LIFELINES as one of their Paperbacks of the Year for 2026! They've backed this book right from the very beginning and I'm so grateful for the incredible support. @eandtbooks.bsky.social @waterstones.bsky.social
Late evening river stroll. After a day of clear skies the clouds rolled in towards evening but there were still some gaps that let the last warm glow of the sunset filter through at the end of day.
Early river stroll. Clear skies at dawn, colder. Dew sparkles on the grass, sunlight seems to bounce off every surface. Robins sing from the trees. A heron flaps slowly downstream. The mountain, Slievenamon, basks in the first warmth of sunlight. The old stone bridge is golden in the morning light.
Late river stroll. Clear skies and the sun lowering behind the old oak. The river glitters with light. Beyond the bridge a sudden shower caught in the sunlight forms a beautiful strong rainbow.
Good to see it on display in Thessaloniki Airport
A wonderful book about an amazing place, its people, and nature
Early stroll. The watchful moon. Leathery fallen leaves. I’m ten minutes late so the road is busier. Time never hesitates, but sometimes it seems to. A silent man silently walks a silent dog.
Early river stroll. Showers, gusting wind. Sleeping swans ignore a rainbow. Dawn light is orange through the rain then the sky darkens. Rain descends, a grey curtain blocks the view. Thunder shakes the valley and ducks take flight. The clouds roll on and sunlight takes control once more.
Just about making it for #ThickTrunkTuesday with this Nettle Leaf Tree in the village of Old Peritheia, Corfu. So called because the leaves are like nettles. At certain times of the year they attract hundreds of nettle leaf butterflies.
Early stroll. Leaves waiting to fall, to briefly fly. My shoes are private transport. A trail of abandoned crisps. The horse gazes at Vic’s garage. The sky fills the space allotted to it.
Authors. Writing biogs for yourselves. A master class. This is from 'When the Cat's Away ' by the late - 😥 - Kinky Friedman. I have his landline and cellphone numbers and foolishly never used them - am still tempted, his spirit might have access...
Early stroll. The ruminating sky. A man in a doorway waves a cigarette in greeting. A mysterious rumbling that seems to come from the depths of a field. The faded yellow of the old grit bin. A child’s shoe outside the dark chapel.
A coffee time read: Coast, Croft and Hill: Letters from the Highlands with Lochaber crofter and writer, Kirsteen Bell published by @caughtbytheriver.bsky.social It's always a pleasure to share our letters with everyone. Happy reading! www.caughtbytheriver.net/2026/09/crof...
Today, mild and calm for the iron men on Crosby beach. The change in seasons seems on hold as summer warmth lingers but the harsh light of summer has been replaced by the softer glow of autumn.
Yesterday. Old Perithia, nestling below Mt. Pantokrator was the destination for a butterfly walk led by Anne Sordinas of Corfu Butterfly Conservation and author Julian Hoffmann as part of this years Corfu Literary Festival. A brilliant day despite the rolls of thunder echoing around the valley.
Yesterday afternoon Corfu. The view from Kanani. An approaching storm over the usually blue waters of the Ionian Sea beyond Mouse Island and Viacherna Monastery.
A beautiful blue sky and blue sea today in Corfu looking towards mainland Greece. As Lawrence Durrell wrote in ‘Prospero’s Cell’: “Somewhere between Calabria and Corfu the blue really begins.”
Amazing clouds over Corfu today as a terrific storm approached.
My beautiful Broadhursts is definitely gone for ever. No salvage operation with a new owner 😢 lbndaily.co.uk/amp/former-b...
