Let me tell you about Russell Brand, as someone who helped the journalists who eventually exposed him. In 2013/4, Brand started to become interested in progressive politics. He said progressive things publicly, went on Newsnight etc. At the time I was involved in progressive grassroots work myself.
Who - and I’m looking for names - told teenage boys that eating spice bags en masse on a busy Luas is even vaguely acceptable behaviour
Your regular reminder that billionaires choose 'philantrophy' bcos a) they refuse to be taxed b) want to decide who gets the crumbs from their tables
Stripe’s Patrick Collison is on the front line of billionaires’ war against wealth tax
Ní thuigeann mo pháistí go raibh am ann gan TG4. Nach raibh againne ach Bouli ar fístéip anois is arís ar scoil. Glacann siad leis go bhfuil clár de gach shaghas ar fáil dóibh ina dteanga féin. Nach aoibhinn an rud é? Breithlá sona @tg4.bsky.social
Cothrom an lae inniu 30 bliain ó shin, chuaigh TG4 go haer den chéad uair riamh! 🎉📺🎂 Ba mhaith linn ár mbuíochas a ghabháil libhse, ár lucht féachana a bhíonn ag breathnú ar TG4 chuile lá beo! ❤ Le grá, TG4 💋
Increasingly thing every member of the Oireachtas needs an emergency “understanding consent” workshop. One with a test at the end. And have those results published somewhere.
If you want more Patrick Stewarts, then you publicly fund the arts and learning programs, so that working class kids can find their way into making a career in them.
A stain on his anonymised character?! There’s a lot of “man’s mental health will be negatively impacted by there being consequences for his actions” about at the moment
A man who posted four naked images of a girl, aged 15, online has walked free after being given a suspended sentence. The judge said that sending the accused to prison 'would be potentially a crushing sentence', taking into account his mental health jrnl.ie/7210141
It's so great that the Irish government has decided to make the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre their next punching bag rather than, you know, deal with anything else.
A recent ad on consent produced by the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre is one of a number of 'warning signs' regarding the use of public money by external organisations, said Simon Harris jrnl.ie/7210067
First they erased a ‘Protect the Dolls’ t-shirt from Strictly Come Dancing. Now they’ve erased Pride badges from University Challenge. The BBC are saying that our visibility as LGBTQ people is a political issue. Meanwhile they’ve commissioned a 2-part series on JK Rowling. Impartial? My arse!
University Challenge contestants say BBC edited out their Pride pins
Two University of Leicester students have alleged the BBC digitally removed their Pride pins from an episode of University Challenge.

New Gist: The Petty Bourgeoisie Oscar Wilde said "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about." We can presume, after this week, that Jim O'Callaghan is similarly a believer in the quantitive over qualitative measurement of publicly. www.thegist.ie/the-gist-the...

As predicted no UK mainstream media has mentioned the overturning of the New Zealand puberty-blocker ban, despite it being covered by Reuters.

There’s a deeply messed up line of thinking coming out re the WeConsent ad that “grandparents all over the country mind their grandkids all the time” (true) and thus “we can’t be telling them they have to ask before hugging them” (nonsense). The minister did the same in his own statement.

The only question to ask about the Garda accounts being hacked is why on earth any self-respecting organisation is still using that platform and what it will take for them to stop #Spéirgorm
How to make Ed look even worse with minimal effort
1. Tonight at Gillette Stadium, Zach Bryan, one of the biggest country music artists in the world, wore a Free Palestine shirt onstage. Gillette Stadium is owned by Robert Kraft, who pushed Ed Sheeran and his promoter to drop Macklemore from his tour. Bryan isn’t just a major country artist.
Sorry now, who let Miriam Lord retire? Can we not.. sue somebody to stop this
An important thing we’ve been practicing for YEARS already with our 3 year old twin boys. “Can I give you a kiss?” And if they say “no” we don’t give them a damn kiss. They now ask us, too, and we practice that it’s okay to be disappointed and also FINE if we ever say no. This is about Cornell.
This is… several strong expletives.
Kerr also says Bazunu was not informed about the squad meeting this morning - ostensibly called to consider the options after Bazunu refused to agree to a players’ statement sketched out last night - and didn’t attend. The squad vote took place without his input or presence.
Big read here on an abject, rancorous, extraordinary day. The potential scale of fallout to come is the stuff of Saipan 2.0 Ireland v Israel: Day of infamy exposes serious lack of leadership in FAI www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer...
Ireland v Israel: Day of infamy exposes serious lack of leadership in FAI
Gavin Bazunu has been left brutally isolated as any semblance of squad unity has been utterly sundered

we really don't talk enough about the utter contempt certain quarters of the southern political and media establishment have for northern nationalists. not in a subtle way, not in an "if you think about it" way, just open disgust and disdain for people they would rather didn't exist
It’s not a conflict, it’s a genocide. Stick that on your armbands.
The Ireland players intend to wear black armbands for “all lives lost in the conflict”; the players and FAI will make charity donations (including a portion of the Austria gate revenue next Thursday), and some elements of pre-match formalities will not go ahead
Massive credit to Bazunu and the exact proportionate absolute shade that the FAI deserve for this shambles. What a way to treat your own players.
🚨 Israel v Republic of Ireland game goes ahead, FAI’s David Courell confirms, at delayed press conference in Debrecen Fresh meeting this morning followed one player (goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu) saying they wanted to withdraw from the squad Squad voted after that meeting to establish the view
Fully gave Ed Sheeran credit for knowing exactly who Macklemore is and what he was going to say and do. So that’ll be me eating my words and shaking my damn head at the state of him.
The amount of working artists I've spoken to who are losing or have lost the ability to make a viable career out of it due largely to people's use of genAI instead of hiring artists is genuinely so upsetting. We won't know what we've lost until it's gone.
