Did everyone see the climate voting records of the City Councilors who are up for re-election? Morillo - 96.6% Green - 95.8% Koyama Lane = 92.0% Clark - 55.0% Zimmerman - 50.0% Novick - 43.5% Thank you to @350pdx.bsky.social for quantifying this. 350pdx.org/wp-content/u...

Public health and healthcare infection control have not given people an opportunity to understand how aerosol transmission works or the implications for what aerosol transmission means. Go easy on each other.
A reminder that a society that requires people to work to access healthcare that comes with risk of medical debt, discrimination like medical racism, no sick leave, etc… is a society in which it’s basic decency to wear an n95 in public to reduce spread of illness & to shield others from all that bs.
Portland City Council candidate Kellie Torres gave two notably different answers about PCEF funding on October 7 and 8. Here are both exchanges:
It’s wild that no other media outlet besides the Mercury is covering the Dan Ryan text saga…like, these lobbyists were calling councilors of color racial epithets. They called me a burrito. Meanwhile there were ten million stories about daddy gate, but crickets on this? Disparity in standards
Thank you @pnwpolicyangel.bsky.social for endorsing my campaign. It is great to work with you. I admire your fierce advocacy for the community. #orpol #multnomahcounty #election2026 #shannonsingleton
Anyway, like I said. Federal fascism is already here.
This is clearly not acceptable
power is defined by who gets to break the rules. as councilor morillo points out, white men in PDX gov have bizarre meltdowns and yell at people with no consequence. that privilege defines their power. talking about this breaks an enormous sound barrier and i am HERE FOR IT
A lot of people are wondering why they keep getting sick and I'm hoping this can connect some dots.
"I guess the trouble was that we didn't have any self-admitted proletarians. Everyone was a temporarily embarrassed millionaire." - John Steinbeck.
Councilor Green, on how much $900 in average savings is worth: "But $900 on average times 18,000 is about $14 million that stays in the economy, that stays in the private sector to spend on other things, increase wages, provide that Christmas bonus, pay that other fee that we just raised, right?"
"Let's say there's a Fortune 500 firm in Portland. And then they moved it to Beaverton. Unless they abandon the Portland market, they still have to pay the tax, right? So, Amazon.com pays the tax right now. They're not headquartered in Portland."
Now moving to public testimony! One D2 small business owner: “The claim that the Fair Share Tax will hurt the local economy is at best long debunked trickle-down economics, and at worst, a betrayal of 18,000 local businesses that help make Portland so special.”
The amount of times that Kellie Torres positively talked about “public-private” partnerships as a solution to the budget crisis means she is primed to sell off our public assets. She was beaming about this in the debate. My face when she said this must have registered 99% disgust.
Torres gesturing at public-private partnerships for parks 🚩🚩🚩 Also wants to use PCEF for parks
Kellie Torres needs to condemn and repudiate her former boss Dan Ryan for destroying evidence in the middle of a lawsuit about him withholding text messages about public business from public records requests
Councilor Morillo on voting no to the Moda Center getting 100% public funding: "We don't even have a watercolor image of the improvements the Blazers want to do... I'm not going to give up your dollars without more information."
To put this in perspective chestnut trees used to be dominant species in the United States. Billions of trees were killed by fungal blight and now fully grown America chestnuts are functionally extinct. There is no getting them back. Ever. All for a data center. www.gadgetreview.com/one-of-ameri...
One of America’s Last Chestnut Groves Is About to Be Destroyed for a Data Center
A rare 200-tree American chestnut grove in West Virginia may be cleared for data-center development, but the project denies the site is on its land.

Fascinated by Sollitt's misreading of the room, I want to study him
Asked which bureau they would cut first, Councilor Morillo says the Police Bureau. Tom Sollitt says Parks and PBOT first, then Police. Councilor Koyama Lane, Esther Leon, Kellie Torres, and Councilor Novick do not name a specific bureau.
Kellie Torres is the only person on stage who explicitly said she would have supported using PCEF funds for police funding had it made the ballot. Note: this directly contradicts Torres' claim that she supports 350PDX's Climate Justice Platform.
The anti vaxxers in this nursing discord are going to kill my faith in education 🫠🫠
....and why I (respectively) am not interested in delaying a policy that’s already been delayed and debated for 6 years. Read the column at the link:
Why I’m leading the Climate and Health Standards, and why the “Health” Part Matters
The Climate & Health Standards is a policy built to meet the reality that Portland is not on track to hit our climate goals and that our communities are already suffering from a changing climate.

So #Portland public school eliminating all neighborhood immersion schools programs and replacing them with only a four badly located "hubs" is basically a major bodyslam to trying to make the city a biking/transit city.
Hey y'all--There are signs the flu season is off to an unusually early start. This means I would amend my typical "by Halloween" advice-*now* is a good time to get your vaccine if you haven't already. Protection takes about 2 weeks to build up. Stay well! www.nature.com/articles/d41...
Flu season could kick off ‘incredibly’ early — what scientists are watching
Cases in the Northern Hemisphere are cropping up weeks early, and they are dominated by a virus with a concerning mutation.
